Accounting Manager

Our client in the Hamilton area is seeking a hands-on Accounting Manager to lead payroll, financial reporting, and full-cycle accounting operations. This role is well suited for a detail-oriented professional who can balance day-to-day execution with providing financial insights to support strategic decision-making. Key Responsibilities Oversee full-cycle payroll processing, including remittances, benefits, and compliance with Canadian legislation Lead month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Cash Flow) Deliver variance analysis and financial reporting to support business planning and performance tracking Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, and invoicing functions Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management Coordinate with external accountants on audits, tax filings, and regulatory requirements Establish and maintain internal controls to ensure accuracy and integrity of financial data Drive process improvements and support implementation or optimization of accounting and payroll systems Supervise and mentor staff, ensuring accuracy, accountability, and continuous development Qualifications 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including payroll and financial reporting 2–3 years of supervisory or management experience Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation and financial reporting standards Proven experience preparing full financial statements and supporting audits Proficiency with accounting systems (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage) and advanced Excel skills Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to manage competing priorities Our specialized recruiting professionals apply their expertise and utilize our proprietary AI to find you great job matches faster.
