Job Description
Position Senior Highways Engineer Location: Birmingham / Rushden – remote working available with occasional office travel. Hours: 37.5 per week, with some flexibility. Company Overview Kier Design is a top‑25 engineering consultancy delivering construction‑focused, innovative and sustainable solutions across the built environment.
We have preferential access to Kier’s £11bn+ project pipeline, including high‑profile projects such as High Speed 2 and Hinkley Point C. Responsibilities Develop concept, preliminary and detailed designs for highway and infrastructure projects. Undertake feasibility, preliminary and detailed design of highway maintenance and improvement schemes using AutoCAD and prepare contract drawings.
Support and review the work of other team members, fostering their development and growth. Collaborate with other design disciplines in Common Data Environments to deliver integrated solutions. Prepare fee estimates, design programmes, tender and contract documents.
Build relationships with clients and stakeholders, attending meetings as required. Qualifications and Requirements Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field with significant post‑graduate experience in highways design. Chartered (CEng) / Incorporated (IEng) professional or working toward this qualification with ICE, CIHT or IHE.
Experience with highways geometry, pavement design, signs & road markings, drainage, and vehicle restraint systems. Proficient with relevant software including AutoCAD, KeySigns, KeyLines, AutoTrack and Civils 3D.
