Senior Network Risk Engineer Location: Glasgow HQ Salary: Starting from £55,000 per annum plus excellent benefits Permanent / Hybrid Closing Date: 13th July 2026 SP Energy Networks is part of the Scottish Power Group of companies. We provide power on behalf of supply companies through a network of cables and power lines that we own, develop and maintain. We are dedicated to delivering a safe and reliable electricity supply to all of our customers 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

Through our transmission and distribution network we provide power to customers in Central and Southern Scotland, as well as Merseyside, Cheshire, North Wales and North Shropshire. What you’ll be doing Working with the larger Asset Strategy team, you’ll play a key role in the strategic asset management function of the transmission network. You’ll contribute to the development of long-term asset risk plans, asset policies and intervention strategies, ensuring efficient management of network assets and delivery of outputs in line with regulatory and business objectives.

You’ll lead engagement with operational and delivery teams, regulators and government bodies, providing technical leadership and direction in asset risk modelling and management. Your work will help shape the future of SPEN’s transmission network, supporting innovation and continuous improvement across the business. Lead the development and take ownership of long‑term investment plans for the transmission network, including planning up to 400kV and holistic solutions to address load‑related requirements over time, integrating with network modernisation plans.

Engage on behalf of SP Energy Networks with stakeholders and customers regarding the development of the transmission network, connection capacity and opportunities, technical and security requirements, ensuring that the SPEN position is well understood and viewed favourably. Lead the development and implementation of investment strategies, policies, system designs and plans, in accordance with best practice, to ensure effective management of the asset base consistent with legal and licence requirements. Take ownership of defining transmission system requirements, identifying potential solutions and proposing and justifying network designs to maintain compliance with planning standards such as the NETS SQSS, Grid Code and other relevant design and asset management standards.

Manage risk on the transmission network through leading the development of system plans, designs and other network policies and strategies in a cost‑effective manner, identifying and resolving potential technical issues, evaluating alternative schemes and proposing innovative design solutions. Apply commercial and technical innovation into policies and plans to maximise value whilst managing risk. Take part in industry working groups and collaborative projects and support and review industry and licence documentation such as Future Energy Scenarios, Electricity Ten Year Statement and Network Options Assessment, business plans and more.

What you’ll bring Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent relevant experience. Chartered membership of the IET or equivalent or working towards this. Experience in power system design and analysis or operations.

Understanding of GB network design standards and codes (e.g., NETS SQSS, Grid Code) and of the operation of the transmission network. Knowledge of SPEN and industry health and safety requirements and compliance. Legal and licence obligations, electricity transmission network design philosophy, policies and practices.

Regulatory, technical and commercial frameworks and issues impacting SPEN. Short‑ and long‑term factors influencing the transmission network. Setting and implementing strategies, policies and plans.

Electrical characteristics of power system equipment such as transmission overhead lines, cables, shunt/ series reactive compensation. Industry codes and standards. Connection requirements for on‑ and offshore transmission systems.

STC processes and procedures associated with the Electricity System Operator interface, including the processes in support of the annual FES, ETYS and NOA documents.
