Band 6 Occupational Therapist – Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Role Overview This position is a full‑time, permanent Band 6 Occupational Therapist role within the Surgical, Vascular and Critical Care Service. The incumbent will manage a complex specialist caseload across patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment and discharge planning. Clinical leadership is required, including supervision of rotational staff, support workers and student occupational therapists, and contributing to service development and change.

Working Pattern Five out of seven days a week, including weekend work Seven‑day working/extended hours required Salary is pro‑rata for part‑time hours, if applicable Key Responsibilities Manage a complex specialist caseload providing assessment, treatment and discharge planning to maximise patient independence Work autonomously and as part of a multi‑disciplinary team to deliver effective and coordinated patient care Assess patient needs, including equipment provision and rehabilitation requirements, ensuring safe and appropriate interventions Maintain accurate clinical records and contribute to audit and quality improvement initiatives Provide leadership, supervision and support to junior staff, students and support workers Contribute to service development, clinical guidelines and continuous improvement within the Occupational Therapy service Communicate complex clinical information effectively to patients, carers and colleagues, supporting informed decision‑making Qualifications and Experience Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy with current HCPC registration Significant postgraduate experience, including work within a relevant clinical speciality Demonstrable experience in supervision, leadership and supporting staff development Strong clinical assessment, reasoning and decision‑making skills within complex care environments Experience in audit, research or quality improvement activity Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively and autonomously Competence in IT systems, including Microsoft Office and clinical recording systems Benefits A minimum of 27 days annual leave, increasing with length of service, plus public holidays Membership of the NHS Pension Scheme, including life insurance benefits Salary Sacrifice Car Benefit Scheme Development opportunities including study bursaries, e‑learning and classroom‑based courses Enhanced pay for working public holidays NHS discounts on a wide range of goods and services Confidential employee support and assistance, including counselling and psychological therapies Equality, Diversity and Inclusion NHSGGC is committed to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion and welcomes applications from all sections of the community.
