Job Description Overview AtkinsRéalis is growing and our Atlantic Canada Engineering group is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our growing Electrical Engineering team. In this role, leaders support the execution of diverse projects by providing technical expertise, leadership to staff, and support for business development activities. The Engineering Services team in Halifax is dynamic and tight‑knit, servicing local projects while contributing to large national and international projects through distributed virtual teams.
Responsibilities Prepare electrical engineering fee estimates for proposals, project estimates, design reports, and other technical documents. Manage and perform related tasks to successfully complete the delivery and handover of projects. Prepare electrical single line diagrams, AC control schematics, wiring distribution schemes, and panel schedules.
Develop cable block diagrams and conduit schedules. Design physical layout of electrical equipment, cables, raceways, and grounding plans for plant facilities. Conduct coordination studies and arc flash calculations.
Perform site inspections and provide technical support during construction activities. Supervise engineers, designers, and CAD technicians; provide technical guidance, mentor, and develop junior staff. Support the Director, Mechanical & Electrical Atlantic, in implementing methods and procedures aligned with corporate standards.
Lead and support business development initiatives, including proposal writing and strategic planning for the Mechanical and Electrical Engineering group. Prepare and approve estimates, proposals, and technical bid evaluations. Build and maintain strong internal and external client relationships to support business growth and client satisfaction.
Assess project resource requirements and participate in continuous HR processes such as recruitment, performance evaluations, and training. Contribute to evaluations and training to ensure all team members are properly trained and qualified. Apply project management principles to oversee projects and mentor team members.
Collaborate with other engineering disciplines and communicate project status, issues, and solutions to stakeholders (clients, management, other departments) to ensure successful outcomes. Drive continuous improvement in processes, tools, and project delivery efficiency. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
Registered as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng) with Engineers Nova Scotia and willingness to become a member in other provinces. PMP designation or CAPM certification (asset).
Minimum 12 years of relevant experience in electrical engineering consulting with progressive responsibilities. At least 3 years of managing/coordinating technical teams. Demonstrable experience building and maintaining long‑term relationships with clients.
Experience supervising, mentoring, and motivating a team of engineers and designers. Willingness to travel occasionally within and outside Nova Scotia. Strong business acumen and client‑facing skills.
Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles and relevant industry standards. Excellent leadership, communication, problem‑solving, and interpersonal skills. Ability to apply and obtain security clearances required by various client agencies.
