About the Position Clark County Public Works Department seeks a Senior Civil Engineer to support the Development Review Division (reviewing drainage studies for off‑site developer projects) and the Design Engineering Division (developing civil engineering designs for transportation and flood control infrastructure). Key Responsibilities Confers with county or agency staff on physical facility project requirements, cost estimates, and related matters. Conducts feasibility and cost studies; develops engineering solutions to complex problems such as bridges, storm or sanitary sewers, roadways, water systems, flood control systems, and office or plant facility design and retrofitting.
Prepares project designs, cost estimates, specifications, and project schedules. Participates in writing RFPs and contract specifications for design and construction services; participates in contractor selection and administers professional service contracts. Maintains liaison with utilities, governmental agencies, county and agency departmental staff; ensures compliance with codes and standards.
Administers contracts with consultants, engineers, architects, and construction contractors; schedules projects; provides technical oversight, inspects work, and ensures all work complies with contract specifications and applicable codes and standards. Coordinates and provides technical oversight to staff performing construction and remodeling projects; provides project or ongoing leadership or supervision to staff; may participate in selection and disciplinary procedures. Reviews and authorizes requests for payment and change orders; tracks and documents project and program costs.
Confers with maintenance staff and recommends solutions to facility design, maintenance and operational problems. Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and participating as an active member of a work team. Maintains accurate records and prepares periodic and special reports.
Monitors developments in equipment, materials and techniques; gathers information, develops alternatives, and makes recommendations. Drives a personal, county or agency motor vehicle to project sites and meetings. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in engineering and four (4) years of full‑time professional level civil design and project management experience.
Valid registration as a professional engineer in the State of Nevada (or other state with subsequent Nevada registration within one year). Valid Nevada Class C driver’s license at time of appointment. Proven background investigation clearance and pre‑employment drug testing clearance.
Working Conditions Work may involve exposure to hazards at construction sites. Work requires mobility throughout an office setting and transportation to project sites. Vision and hearing are needed for reading materials, computer screens, and communication.
