We’re looking for an Engineer, Substations to design, develop, and execute critical electrical infrastructure projects that safely and reliably power Calgary’s communities. This hybrid role combines work‑from‑home Mondays and Fridays with local on‑site collaboration, ensuring no overnight travel while delivering field experience. Responsibilities Work with Estimation and Project Management to ensure accurate project estimates.

Establish conceptual schedules, execution strategies, and design scopes of work. Apply all relevant engineering standards, codes, regulations, and public safety requirements in designs. Design, review, and approve indoor and outdoor substation drawings for construction and records, including AC/DC schematics, equipment/panel layouts, wiring diagrams, and plan/elevation drawings.

Prepare detailed and standard template Design & Construction Scope of Work, estimates, and Bill of Materials. Produce construction packages (drawings, cable tables, drawing lists, BOE, etc.) and commissioning/functional test templates. Act as Engineer of Record, providing professional authentication and accountability.

Manage QA/QC and performance of drawings and packages, ensuring high‑quality construction documents. Store project information appropriately and complete technical close‑out in a timely manner. Assist Project Manager with lessons learned, close‑out reporting, and design guidelines review.

Investigate design alternatives and follow through on change requests to standards. Review design requirements for major and minor equipment drawings and specifications. Liaise with stakeholders on design activities.

Education Required B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering with a P.Eng. designation. APEGA training and courses in protection & control or outdoor equipment layout design considered a strong asset. Qualifications Minimum 4 years’ experience with an electric utility, primarily in substation design and construction.

Technical proficiency in AC/DC schematic, equipment/panel layout, wiring, and outdoor substation equipment plan & elevation drawings. Experience improving methods and processes through new ideas. Valid driver’s license and ability to attend site visits.

Competencies Excellent communication and organizational skills, conveying information effectively and managing competing priorities. Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, establish priorities, and meet commitments and deadlines. High attention to detail, focus on accuracy and quality.
