The Role Band 5 Staff Nurse to join our Orthopaedic Outpatients and Fracture Clinic team at Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

The post holder will work within a nurse‑led fracture clinic, providing high‑quality, patient‑centred care to trauma and orthopaedic patients. The role includes assessment, treatment, patient education and discharge planning within both face‑to‑face and virtual clinic settings. Key conditions: Live NMC UK pin required.

Permanent, full‑time post of 36 hours per week. Based at Glasgow Royal Infirmary. Shift pattern Monday‑Friday, dayshift only.

Key Responsibilities Clinical Assess patient needs, plan/implement and evaluate evidence‑based programmes of care, considering lifestyle, gender and cultural background, ensuring involvement with patient, family, carers and significant others. Work as an independent staff nurse within specialised nurse‑led clinics for orthopaedic and fracture conditions. Provide specialist knowledge of casting products, including selection, application, removal and patient information about cast care.

Demonstrate safe and effective application of a variety of casts. Advise other departments within and outside the hospital for patients in a cast or splint. Maintain proficiency in all aspects of casting application and troubleshooting to avoid compromising patient care.

Demonstrate competency in venepuncture and pin & wire removal. Make diagnostic decisions based on interpretation of X‑rays and other test results during nurse‑led clinics. Assess, plan a programme of care and discharge patients from nurse‑led clinics on a daily basis, including wound care.

Work independently within the virtual fracture clinic, clinically assessing patients via telephone and ensuring clinical decisions are enacted. Maintain patient records in line with NMC guidelines for records and record keeping. Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job Essential Registered Nurse (NMC).

Effective communication and teamwork skills. Commitment to evidence‑based practice and patient safety. Desirable Experience or willingness to develop skills in cast application and removal.
