Job Description

Senior Electrical Engineer Lead and deliver high‑quality electrical design and contract administration for complex commercial and institutional building projects across Alberta, with occasional out‑of‑province travel for coordination only. Responsibilities Lead design and development of electrical systems, including power distribution (low and medium voltage), lighting, emergency/standby power, grounding/bonding, fire alarm and life safety, security and surveillance, and AV integration. Perform and oversee engineering calculations such as load studies, short‑circuit, coordination and arc‑flash analysis.

Prepare and review drawings, specifications and technical documentation to ensure compliance with Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), Alberta Building Code, National Building Code and industry standards. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to technologists, EITs and junior engineers. Manage the electrical scope throughout all construction phases, from tender through project close‑out, reviewing shop drawings, RFIs, submittals and change orders.

Conduct field reviews and site observations to verify alignment with design intent and applicable standards. Coordinate with contractors, consultants and internal project teams to resolve design and construction issues; support value engineering, constructability reviews and design optimisation. Monitor project progress, schedules and deliverables; prepare construction documentation including field reports, deficiency lists and close‑out materials.

Support project managers with cost control, change evaluation and risk management activities. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and at least 6 years of experience managing electrical projects for commercial, institutional and light industrial client sites. Proven experience in contract administration and project delivery.

In‑depth knowledge of Canadian Electrical Code, Alberta Building Code, National Building Code, LEED and sustainable design, and applicable CSA and ULC standards. Valid Class5 driver’s licence (travel to project sites required). Ability to obtain security clearance (Police/RCMP Reliability Status).

Preferred: 10+ years of progressive electrical design and construction support experience. Preferred: Registered or eligible for registration as a P. Eng. with APEGA.

Preferred: Strong experience in electrical consulting and building systems design. Technical Skills Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit. Strong knowledge of electrical system modelling and analysis tools (e.g., ETAP, SKM—Asset).

Experience with lighting design software (AGI32 or DIALux—preferred). Familiarity with commissioning processes and documentation workflows. Proficient in Microsoft Office365 Suite.

Strong understanding of protection, coordination and control systems. Soft Skills Strong leadership and mentorship capabilities. Excellent communication and stakeholder coordination skills.

High attention to detail with strong analytical problem‑solving abilities. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment. Strong organisational and time‑management skills.

Working Conditions Hybrid work model: office, home and project sites. Travel within Alberta and occasional out‑of‑province travel. Occasional extended hours during fire‑alarm verifications and major project milestones.

Compensation & Benefits Salary range: CAD105,000 – CAD145,000 per year, based on experience. Comprehensive health and benefits package. Professional development and licensing support.
