Our Ontario Region is seeking a Senior Civil/Environmental Engineer to join our North American Waste Management team of 120 professionals providing traditional and emerging services with our waste and energy clients. This position is a phenomenal opportunity to be part of an established practice with an exciting future ahead. The role can be based out of any of our Ontario offices including Mississauga, Markham, Toronto, Whitby, Waterloo, Peterborough or Ottawa.

Responsibilities Engineered solutions design: Managing and providing technical leadership and oversight on solid waste and energy solutions projects for municipal and private clients requiring permitting, detailed design, construction management and inspection, operations support, and other studies.
Technical developments recommendation: Leading the technical approach development for new project proposals. Professional supervision: Completing peer reviews of designs completed by other team members and providing leadership in the growth and direction of the Ontario, Canadian, and North American waste management teams. Feasibility studies: Conducting complex feasibility studies from a technological and organizational perspective and documenting findings to complete cost‑benefit analysis on implementing changes to GHD’s clients’ processes, products, or technology selection and implementation.
Waste management: Providing consulting expertise to GHD’s waste management clients, including waste reduction programs, waste segregation, compliance, storage, transport, and disposal. Project management: Managing a portfolio of projects while reporting to senior colleagues. Client and customer management (external): Establishing and maintaining long‑lasting client relationships with municipal and private clients and prospects.
Mentoring: Providing mentorship to intermediate and junior technical staff across North America. Active participation in waste and energy industry groups and liaison activities with regulators. Engineering standards specification: Working collaboratively with GHD’s Engineering Design Organization (EDO), analyzing information, drafting engineering standards and specifications, and evaluating the effectiveness of those standards within the engineering discipline.
Health, safety, and environment: Monitoring and reviewing performance against HSE key performance indicators and patterns of behavior; taking action to improve performance and resolve noncompliance with the organization’s HSE policies. Qualifications & Requirements P.Eng. designation in Ontario required; accreditation in other Canadian provinces is considered an asset. 15+ years of experience. Experience in landfill and landfill gas, transfer station, and waste facility design; experience with organic waste processing, waste processing technologies, and energy projects is considered an asset.
Valid Ontario driver’s license with a driving record in good standing. Willingness and ability for occasional project travel and oversight of field work by the team. Proficiency in MS Office, Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint.
Working understanding of Autodesk, AutoCAD or Civil 3D is an asset. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to work in a highly skilled and diversified project team. Salary range: $99,950 –$145,950 (base salary determined by skills, experience, qualifications, and location).
