Heitler Houstoun Architects (HHA) is an award-winning, Manhattan-based architecture and interior design studio seeking experienced Project Architects/Managers to join our growing team. This is an opportunity for design-driven professionals with strong technical and leadership capabilities to take ownership of projects and guide them from early feasibility through construction. We are looking for candidates with 5-7 years of professional experience (5-year B.Arch or M.Arch), licensed or pursuing licensure, who are based in the New York City area or able to relocate in the near term.

Who You Are You are a confident, technically skilled architect with the ability to lead projects, manage teams, and serve as a primary point of contact for clients and consultants. You understand how to translate design vision into executable strategies—balancing design intent, technical rigor, budget, and schedule. You are proactive, organized, and comfortable operating across multiple project types, with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.

What You'll Do As a Project Architect / Manager at HHA, you will lead projects through all phases, from pre-design and feasibility through construction administration and close-out. Key responsibilities include: Project Leadership & Management Lead 1–4 person project teams across multiple project types and phases Manage project schedules, budgets, and internal/external deadlines Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, consultants, and stakeholders Oversee internal workflow, team delegation, and coordination across disciplines Pre-Design & Strategy Advise clients during site selection and early feasibility studies Review leases, work letters, and alteration agreements to identify design and cost implications Help establish project scope, budget alignment, and overall project approach Design & Documentation Oversee design development and ensure alignment with project goals and constraints Direct the production of coordinated construction document sets Ensure code compliance, technical resolution, and documentation quality Approvals & Permitting Manage landlord/building approvals and jurisdictional filings Navigate zoning, building codes, and permitting processes Coordinate with expeditors and regulatory agencies as required Construction Administration Administer the construction contract and support the General Contractor throughout construction Lead submittal and RFI review processes and maintain alignment with design intent Conduct site visits and coordinate with project stakeholders through project close-out Project Experience (Preferred) Candidates may have experience in one or more of the following: Retail : Tenant and landlord work including storefronts, re-demising, and brand rollouts (beauty, wellness, apparel) Residential : NYC apartment and brownstone renovations; suburban single-family homes; multi-family projects Technical & Professional Skills Strong experience organizing and coordinating construction document sets Proven ability to manage consultant teams and integrate multidisciplinary work Working knowledge of zoning, building codes, accessibility, and energy codes Experience navigating approvals with building management, DOB, and local authorities Ability to identify required consultants and manage proposal/selection processes Production & Tools Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit required Working knowledge of SketchUp, Rhino, and V-Ray preferred Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office Our Philosophy At Heitler Houstoun Architects , we translate imagination and knowledge into meaningful human experience.
