Watch Our Story: https://www.hdrinc.com/our-story Primary Responsibilities The Senior Civil/Highway Engineer will lead the design of civil engineering projects for clients in the New England area, ensuring safety, health, and welfare of the public. Responsibilities include preparing plans, detail drawings, and quantity estimates for projects ranging from highway and local roadway design to green infrastructure, stormwater management, and multimodal transportation. The role requires working with clients such as MassDOT, MBTA, NHDOT, RIDOT, and the City of Boston while maintaining a high level of professionalism.
Preferred Qualifications 10+ years of experience in civil engineering, emphasizing roadway and utility design, grading, site layout, stormwater management, complete streets practices, green infrastructure, and construction management. Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field. Professional Engineer certification.
Strong problem‑solving and communication skills. Attention to detail and exemplary work ethic. Commitment to an employee‑owned culture.
Preferred experience with MassDOT, MBTA, and Massachusetts municipalities; recommended experience with other New England state DOTs. Preferred proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D; recommended experience with MicroStation OpenRoads. Experience in project management.
Local candidates given preference. Required Qualifications Minimum of 10 years experience in all aspects of roadway engineering design. Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered (e.g., PE or P.Eng).
Demonstrated leadership and communication skills and ability to work with various teams. Experience with urban and rural highway interchanges, intersection design, traffic management, transportation planning, site planning, concept alignment preparation, geometric layout, and CAD base alignment plans. Coordination of survey, grading, drainage, utilities, and site layout advantageous.
