Job Description
OPEN EXAMINATION - ONE YEAR PROBATIONARY PERIOD The current vacancy is in the IT Project Management Office (PMO). This eligible list may be used to fill other vacancies for Technology Manager for the duration of the list. Job Description Under the direction of the Assistant Chief Information Officer, the Technology Manager leads and oversees assigned technology programs, services, projects, and staff.
This role provides strategic and technical leadership for technology functions and enterprise systems; develops and implements policies, standards, and procedures; manages budgets and contracts, and vendor relationships; and collaborates with City departments, vendors, and stakeholders to ensure reliable, well-governed technology services aligned with Citywide goals. Classification Code 2731 Reporting Relationships This position reports to Assistant Chief Information Officer. Common Responsibilities Customer Service – Provide exceptional customer service to all employees, customers, vendors and other City departments.
Ethics – Model and practice the highest standards of ethical conduct. Performance – Develop necessary skills from on-the-job training and meet performance standards for the classification by the end of the probationary period. Work required hours and times, including authorized overtime for non‑management staff, to complete goals, tasks and objectives.
Safety – Ensure duties are performed safely and efficiently and maintain a safe working environment. Teamwork – Foster a teamwork environment and establish and maintain effective working relationships. Communications – Give and receive direction in English; communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
Equipment – Operate or use all position‑related software, equipment and tools effectively and safely. Cyber Security – Actively participate in maintaining a secure computing environment by implementing City cybersecurity policies, procedures and best practices. Understand common cyber threats such as phishing and malware, and promptly report suspicious activities.
Typical Functions The incumbent may perform additional or different functions as required to address business needs and changing business practices. Education A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in information technology, computer science, management information systems, public administration, or a closely related field. Experience Five (5) or more years of progressively responsible professional and management experience in information technology, including responsibility for planning, implementing, supporting, and managing enterprise technology systems, services, or projects.
At least three (3) years of the required work experience must include supervisory or management responsibilities in project coordination, vendor management, or program oversight. Licenses / Certifications Highly desirable certifications include: Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC) Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) Computer Hacking Forensic Investigator (CHFI) CompTIA Security+ Certified Information Security Manager (CISM)Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) NIST Cybersecurity Framework (NCSF) Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP) Microsoft (MCSA, MCSE) VMware (VCP, VCAP) Project Management Professional (PMP) Other relevant certifications related to the specific assignment Transportation Valid California Class C driver’s license. Working Conditions Work is primarily performed indoors in an office setting.
Work is primarily performed Monday to Friday during regular office hours. Evening work may be required. Weekend or holiday work may be required.
Emergency response may be required 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, including nights, weekends and holidays. Candidates must pass the exam with a minimum score of 70.00% to be placed on the eligible list. Time and place of the examination will be announced. Examinations will assess the candidate’s education, experience, knowledge and skills related to the job.
