Job Description

Tetra Tech is adding a Civil Engineer to our Environmental Consulting team in Germantown, Maryland. This position will perform and manage technical tasks such as preparation of work plans, fieldwork, sampling, design, construction oversight, O&M, and report writing on civil and environmental projects in the public and private sector. The role requires up to 50% field work and/or travel.

Responsibilities: Perform advanced scientific, geological, and engineering analyses, including interpretation of hydrogeologic settings, chemical data from environmental media, and development of cost‑effective remedial strategies. Lead preparation of work plans, subcontract specifications, remedial investigation, feasibility studies, long‑term monitoring reports, remedial system designs, remedial action plans, O&M plans, permit applications, and cost estimates. Supervise and coordinate junior staff on projects and provide technical direction to CADD/GIS operators, designers, technicians, and field personnel.

Work with project team personnel to execute and interpret requirements related to RCRA, CERCLA, UST, CWA, and other federal and state regulations. Assist in or lead proposal preparation and participate in technical and sales presentations to clients. Manage subcontractors, monitor project cost and schedule performance, and interact with client representatives.

Qualifications: B.S. degree in Engineering or Environmental Studies/Science. Valid Maryland P.E. license or ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire. 5–8 years of experience with engineering, scientific, or environmental projects and data interpretation. Demonstrated experience managing projects.

Expertise in CADD, such as AutoCAD Civil 3D. Preferred qualifications: Knowledge of RCRA, CERCLA, UST, CWA and other regulations. OSHA training, including 40‑hour HAZWOPER.

Direct experience preparing sampling work plans, CERCLA FS, PRAPs, RODs, Remedial Design documents, O&M Plans, and LTM Reports. Experience in characterization and/or remediation of hazardous waste sites with subsurface soil and groundwater sampling, remedial system installation/oversight, and O&M. Knowledge of local, state, and federal permitting.

Technical writing skills. Citizenship: Candidate must be a U.S. citizen. Background checks will be performed if a CAC card, CUI enclave access, or a security clearance is required.

Physical Demands & Work Environment This role involves strenuous fieldwork, including standing, crouching, sitting, loading equipment, lifting 1–50 pounds, and potential exposure to natural, physical, and chemical hazards. Field work may involve extended hours and travel up to 50% of the time. An active driver’s license is required.

Language & Communication Skills Excellent writing and communication skills are required. Fluency in English and technical report writing experience are preferred. Other Skills Proficiency in environmental and engineering data analysis, statistical analysis, engineering calculations, AutoCAD Civil 3D, MS Word, Excel, and environmental software.
