Freelance Principal Structural Engineer (Outside IR35) Location: London / Hybrid Contract: Long-Term Freelance IR35 Status: Outside IR35 Day Rate: Competitive (DOE) Sector: Infrastructure / Energy / Major Projects We are working with a leading engineering consultancy delivering complex infrastructure and energy projects, and we are looking to engage an experienced Principal Structural Engineer on a freelance (Outside IR35) basis. This role is ideally suited to a chartered structural engineer with a strong background in major infrastructure, high-risk structures, and multidisciplinary design environments . Key Responsibilities: Lead structural design and analysis across complex projects from concept through to detailed design Take ownership of RC and steel design , including seismic and fatigue considerations Act as Technical Lead / CRE / Design Reviewer on key project packages Develop and review advanced structural models (ETABS, Robot, GSA, LUSAS etc.) Deliver foundations, substructures, heavy civils, and building structures Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across rail, energy, and large-scale developments Ensure compliance with Eurocodes and project-specific standards Requirements: Chartered Engineer ( CEng MICE or equivalent ) Proven experience operating at Senior / Principal level within consultancy environments Strong background across infrastructure, transport, or energy projects (e.g.

HS2, substations, metro, large developments) Demonstrated experience with advanced structural analysis tools (ETABS, Robot, GSA, etc.) Experience in design for seismic and complex loading conditions highly desirable Ability to act as Responsible Engineer / technical authority Must operate via a UK Limited Company (LTD) Must have the right to work in the UK Desirable Experience: Experience on high-risk buildings or regulated infrastructure projects Background in substation, power, or rail projects Exposure to international design codes (ACI, EC, seismic codes) What’s on Offer: Outside IR35 engagement with strong earning potential Opportunity to work on flagship UK and international projects Long-term contract visibility High level of technical ownership and autonomy Apply: If you are a Principal Structural Engineer available for your next freelance assignment, or planning ahead, please get in touch or apply directly via LinkedIn with your CV.
