Senior Business Analyst – API Integration

Job Title: Senior Business Analyst – API Integration Company: Cogency Inc. Location: Toronto, ON (Hybrid – 3 Days Onsite) Job Type: Full-Time Interview Process: Final Round In-Person Interview Required Job Summary Cogency Inc. is seeking an experienced Senior Business Analyst – API Integration to support large-scale API modernization and onboarding initiatives within a complex enterprise environment. The ideal candidate will possess strong business analysis expertise, deep understanding of API ecosystems, and the ability to effectively manage stakeholder engagement across multiple Lines of Business (LOBs).

This role will serve as the primary liaison between business stakeholders, API owners, architects, and development teams, ensuring successful API onboarding, migration planning, and execution. Key Responsibilities API Onboarding & Requirements Management Drive API onboarding intake processes and classify APIs as standard, non-standard, or PII-impacted. Collaborate with API Owners and stakeholders to gather, analyze, and document API requirements.

Manage and prioritize API onboarding backlogs and migration wave plans. Facilitate API readiness assessments and onboarding planning activities. Support API inventory management and onboarding governance processes.

Stakeholder Management & Communication Coordinate with 50+ business and technology stakeholders across multiple Lines of Business. Conduct workshops, discovery sessions, and working groups to gather requirements and align priorities. Act as the primary communication hub between client stakeholders, architects, and delivery teams.

Translate complex technical concepts into business-friendly language for diverse audiences. Ensure stakeholders remain informed regarding onboarding progress, risks, and dependencies. Documentation & Analysis Create and maintain: Business Requirements Documents (BRDs) Functional Requirements Documents (FRDs) API Intake Forms Onboarding Checklists User Stories Process Flows Migration Wave Plans Support OpenAPI specification reviews and documentation validation.

Identify APIs lacking documentation and coordinate reverse engineering activities with technical teams. Agile Delivery & Governance Support Agile delivery processes and sprint planning activities. Manage Jira backlogs, epics, stories, dependencies, and risks.

Track onboarding status and report progress through Jira and Confluence. Escalate blockers, risks, and issues to project leadership in a timely manner. Collaborate closely with Scrum Masters, Architects, and Development Leads.

Required Qualifications 7+ years of Business Analysis experience. 3+ years of experience working on API, integration, middleware, or enterprise platform programs. Strong understanding of: REST APIs API Lifecycle Management OpenAPI Specifications (Swagger) API Governance Proven experience managing large stakeholder groups within enterprise-scale programs. Strong experience with: Jira Confluence Agile/Scrum methodologies Backlog management Sprint planning and coordination Excellent verbal, written, facilitation, and presentation skills.

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder management capabilities. Preferred Qualifications Experience with API Management platforms such as: Apigee Azure API Management (APIM) MuleSoft Kong Experience with API developer portals and API catalogs. Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) or equivalent certification.

Familiarity with: PCI-DSS OSFI Guidelines PIPEDA Regulatory and compliance requirements impacting API programs Domain Experience Banking and Financial Services experience is strongly preferred. Experience supporting enterprise API transformation, modernization, or migration programs. Understanding of Line of Business (LOB) operating models within large financial institutions.

Education Bachelor's degree in Business, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.
