Job Description

Job Overview The Civil/Environmental Design Engineer position is located in Nashville, TN. Compensation ranges from $125K to $165K plus an annual bonus commensurate with experience, skills, and geographic location. Responsibilities Plan multiple projects simultaneously, including serving as the senior technical lead on a project.

Supervise engineering professionals, staff-level engineers, technicians, and CAD professionals. Estimate personnel needs, assign work, and meet completion dates. Interpret and ensure consistent application of firm standards.

Coordinate day-to-day operations of technical staff, monitoring progress and accuracy of work and providing technical guidance. Oversee development of project document deliverables, report writing, data interpretation, and graphical presentations. Consult with clients to prepare plans, reports, and assessments.

Exercise judgment in evaluation, selection, and adaptation of standard techniques and criteria. Manage project budget, hours, and effective time utilization. Act as client manager to understand customer needs and distribute work assignments and proposals.

Communicate potential issues to leadership promptly. Oversee project set up and authorization paperwork (authorizations, contracts, subcontracts, purchase orders, project schedules). Handle project financial management duties (project projections, invoicing, subcontractor approvals, progress reporting, contract compliance).

Maintain confidentiality at all times. Exercise safe work practices, attend required safety training, and comply with OSHA regulations. Participate in continuous improvement programs and support team efforts.

Stay up-to-date on industry trends through training and professional publications. Perform other duties as assigned. Project‑Related Responsibilities Prepare Solid Waste Management Facility permit documents, construction plans, and specifications for landfills, recycling facilities, transfer stations, and convenience centers.

Prepare Part B Permit Application Documents and associated permit documents for Industrial Facilities. Prepare permit documents, construction plans, and specifications for remedial actions related to voluntary, RCRA, and CERCLA cleanup actions. Direct construction quality assurance activities during construction.

Prepare SWPPPs, SPCC Plans, and ARAP Applications. Prepare construction cost estimates and financial assurance estimates. Conduct Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments.

Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited four‑year college or university; advanced degree preferred. 5–10 years of related experience. Professional Engineer (PE) license. Advanced knowledge of engineering principles.

Proficiency with computer‑aided software (Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, etc.). Ability to complete and maintain HAZWOPER certification (40‑hour class and annual 8‑hour refresher). Proven leadership skills: identifies problems and devises appropriate solutions.

Strong written and verbal communication skills. Team‑player with strong problem‑solving skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities. Strong organizational and management skills.

Ability to mentor others, set expectations, provide input and feedback fostering accountability. Ability to delegate and communicate effectively in group settings, maintaining relationships with employees and leaders. We are an Equal Opportunity Employer.
