THE ROLE The Unit Manager, Commercial Service is responsible for providing leadership, direction, coaching, and operational oversight to multiple Commercial Insurance service teams. This role plays a critical part in developing talent, driving team performance, supporting business growth, and ensuring exceptional service delivery. As a Unit Manager, you are a leader who inspires performance, develops people, drives accountability, and fosters a collaborative, high-performing culture. You lead with integrity, communicate effectively, and support both individual and organizational success. WHAT YOU’LL DO: Be a Strong Leader and Communicator Lead, coach, and develop high-performing service teams.
Foster a positive, accountable, and collaborative team culture. Conduct regular team meetings and maintain open communication. Hold quarterly 1:1 meetings focused on performance, career development, and growth.
Conduct regular check-ins with team members and Advisors. Ensure all team members understand their responsibilities and performance expectations. Manage performance concerns through coaching, documentation, SMART goals, and partnership with HR.
Recognize and celebrate team and individual successes. Help Find and Develop Talent Support recruitment, onboarding, and retention efforts. Create and maintain career development plans for team members.
Identify training and development opportunities. Mentor employees and support professional growth. Support succession planning and future leadership development.
Help Drive Growth Participate in business planning and operational initiatives. Monitor team performance metrics, revenue, staffing, and productivity. Review A/R balances and unbilled/unaddressed renewals on a regular basis.
Provide Advisors with visibility into staffing and team performance. Support strong client service standards and operational consistency. Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, service delivery, and team performance.
Participate in industry, community, and business development activities. Performance Management Partner with Advisors and Client Managers to support team productivity and accountability. Address performance concerns in a timely and professional manner.
Conduct formal performance management conversations and document follow-up actions. Establish SMART goals and development plans when performance improvement is required. Provide 1:1 coaching directly or through team resources.
Work closely with HR to ensure performance management practices align with Navacord guidelines and expectations. WHAT WE REQUIRE: Strong Commercial Insurance experience. Leadership experience in a large organisation with a focus on coaching and people development.
Alberta Level II General Insurance License required. CIP, CAIB, or equivalent designation preferred or working towards. Strong understanding of commercial coverages and brokerage operations.
Experience managing performance, engagement, and career development. Strong communication, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills. Proficiency with EPIC, Outlook, Excel, and Word.
