Windows Server Engineer Role: Windows Server Engineer x3 Duration: 6 months, likely extensions Location: Hybrid (mostly remote, some requirement to be onsite at Burnaby/Vancouver, BC offices) Hours: up to 37.5/week TOP SKILLS Windows Server administration and engineering (10+ years) Hybrid infrastructure including on‑prem and cloud (Azure IaaS) Server migration, replatforming, and modernization Infrastructure security, patching, and operational support JOB DESCRIPTION JOB DESCRIPTION Overview: The consultant will support Technology Services in advancing server infrastructure modernization, operational resiliency, and secure system operations across E-Comm’s hybrid environment. The role requires strong hands‑on experience with Windows Server environments, including design, build, maintenance, and integration with cloud services and enterprise systems. The consultant will support server engineering activities required for Windows 11 readiness, application hosting, infrastructure modernization, cloud adoption, cybersecurity uplift, and transition-to-operations activities.

The consultant will support projects and activities in the following areas: Assessment, remediation, and modernization of Windows Server environments across on‑premises and cloud infrastructure. Support for server lifecycle management, including build, configuration, patching, upgrades, and decommissioning. Engineering support for Azure IaaS, virtualization platforms, and hybrid infrastructure integration.

Server readiness for application migration, M365 integration, identity services, and operational service transition. Review and improvement of server security posture, configurations, system dependencies, and operational processes. Any additional infrastructure, server engineering, cybersecurity, cloud, or Technology Services initiatives identified by TS Leadership.

Responsibilities: Assess current‑state server infrastructure including Windows Server environments, configurations, dependencies, and technical debt. Review server roles, performance, capacity, patching posture, and system availability across environments. Identify risks, constraints, configuration gaps, legacy dependencies, and security issues impacting infrastructure stability and modernization efforts.

Design and implement server configurations, build standards, and infrastructure improvements aligned to operational requirements. Support server migration and replatforming initiatives, including movement to Azure IaaS or updated infrastructure platforms. Maintain and support server environments including patching, updates, vulnerability remediation, and system monitoring.

Develop and maintain server architecture diagrams, configuration documentation, operational procedures, and decision records. Support integration between server infrastructure, Active Directory, identity services, applications, and cloud platforms. Troubleshoot and resolve server‑related issues impacting performance, availability, application functionality, and user access.

Produce runbooks, support documentation, configuration standards, validation evidence, and transition‑to‑operations materials. Work closely with cybersecurity, infrastructure, network, endpoint, and cloud teams to align server environments with security and operational requirements. Support implementation planning, change readiness, cutover activities, hypercare, and knowledge transfer.

Qualifications: Minimum of 10 years’ experience in Windows Server administration, systems engineering, or infrastructure engineering in complex environments. Degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field, or equivalent experience. Strong hands‑on experience with Windows Server, virtualization, and hybrid infrastructure is required.

Experience supporting Azure IaaS or cloud‑hosted server environments is required. Experience with server migration, replatforming, and modernization initiatives is an asset. Experience working in highly available or regulated environments is an asset.

Knowledge of server operating systems, infrastructure architecture, and system integration practices. Knowledge of infrastructure security, patching standards, and operational best practices. Knowledge of MS Visio, Teams, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.

Ability to respond to shifting priorities, demands, and timelines. Ability to plan, organize, and manage infrastructure activities and priorities. Ability to analyze complex infrastructure issues and resolve or escalate appropriately.

Ability to collaborate effectively with technical teams and stakeholders. Ability to communicate clearly and produce structured technical documentation. Ability to maintain documentation, records, and operational artifacts.

Position Type: Full-time contract position. Initial Term: Six months. Extension Opportunity: Likely extensions.

Work Environment: Hybrid, with remote work permitted and on‑site attendance required as needed. Program Context: Supports Technology Services Transformation Program including modernization, resiliency, cybersecurity, cloud, identity, endpoint, and ITSM initiatives. Operating Environment: Complex, highly available public safety environment with hybrid infrastructure.

Consultant must supply own laptop and smartphone; client provides access. Business hours typically 8:00am–4:30pm. Start: As soon as possible.

Termination with 10 business day notice. Rate: TBD. Preference for candidates within the Lower Mainland or within easy travel distance.

Travel expenses not covered. Must be a Canadian permanent resident or citizen. VPD Security Clearance required.

Minimum three years Canadian residency required. Typical processing time is 2–4 weeks.
