Job Overview Gate 26B is looking to recruit an experienced hardworking exceptional band 6 nurse on a full‑time secondment basis for six months. The ideal candidate should have band 6 experience for a minimum of one year or two years of experience as Band 5. Gate 26B is a very busy fast‑paced ward specialising in elective urology services.

The ward focuses on strong multidisciplinary team working, early discharge planning to enable patient flow, and a strong, efficient workforce focused on individual employee development to provide the highest standard of patient care. The role requires surgical experience with postoperative care, supporting junior staff and new starters, working under pressure, and excellent communication skills to ensure flow through the hospital while maintaining high standards of care. Main Duties of the Job Datix management E‑rostering, appraisal and supervision Student and newly qualified RN mentoring Daily ward management and leading the team with confidence Supporting the Senior Charge Nurse Undertake audits and participate in weekly quality meetings Leading board rounds Having difficult conversations Registered nurse with current NMC PIN to practice Evidence of continued professional development, e.g. a professional portfolio and participation in appraisal and development review To have achieved a recognised teaching & assessing qualification Completion of training for additional clinical skills required in the ward, e.g.

IV drug administration, cannulation, venepuncture, male catheterisation, training to monitor and change syringes for syringe drivers Competent to use patient‑controlled analgesia and epidurals Knowledge to manage clinical needs for patients with post‑surgery Knowledge about various surgical procedures, post‑op care and follow‑up Orange‑card training for the use of pumps or machinery relevant to the ward or department Evidence of attendance at mandatory training appropriate to the role Competence in the use of computers and electronic communication systems, or expectation to develop existing skills further as the needs of the service dictate Evidence of an ability to critically appraise and utilise research to maintain and improve patient care Person Specification Education / Training / Qualifications – Essential Registered General Nurse minimum of 2 years Education / Training / Qualifications – Desirable Worked in a surgical ward Work Experience – Essential Recent experience in surgery and postoperative care Recent experience in complex discharge planning Work Experience – Desirable Any NBT ward experience for the last 5 years Knowledge / Skills / Abilities – Essential Knowledge about surgical procedures, drain management, PCA, epidurals Knowledge / Skills / Abilities – Desirable Able to demonstrate digital/computer skills and knowledge Additional Information If you apply for this vacancy and have not received a communication from North Bristol NHS Trust within three weeks of the closing date, please assume that on this occasion your application has been unsuccessful.
