Job Description
This Technical Project Manager (TPM) role supports a softwareâfocused technical organization by collaborating closely with internal engineering teams and external vendors to drive delivery of fixes, releases, and infrastructure improvements. The position is not engineeringâheavy but requires solid technical acumen to manage complex projects, dependencies, and risks, taking ownership of key project areas while receiving mentorship. Top Skills Strong understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and ability to communicate it to both technical and nonâtechnical stakeholders. 3â5 years managing largeâscale embedded software projects (nonâcloud or basic web UI platforms) involving microcontrollers, devices, networks, and memoryâconstrained environments.
Technical capability to review code and assess concepts, risks, and dependencies without handsâon programming. Proficient use of Jira. Selfâdirected, ownershipâdriven mindset with clear communication.
Experience with Agile methodologies. AIâfirst mindset, effectively utilizing large language models. Nice To Have Experience with networks, modems, and carriers; familiarity with automotive industry standards such as ISO 26262 and ASPICE.
Release management and vendor coordination experience. Ability to write Python scripts. Key Responsibilities Include Managing vendors, notably working with Qualcomm on bugs and releases.
Supporting release management across software initiatives. Driving planning, tracking, reporting, and dashboards using Jira. Coordinating communication across crossâfunctional technical teams.
Managing test automation projects: planning lab improvements, capacity expansion, enhancing test suites, and defining futureâstate trajectories. Driving infrastructure improvements. Additional Skills & Qualifications Required Experience on large programs (20+ people, nonâstartup scale).
Exposure to automotive, cellular, connectivity, modem, telephony, or certificationârelated environments. Understanding of software testing and automation concepts. Customer or stakeholder management experience, including escalations.
Comfort working in ambiguous environments and learning vendorâspecific processes. What Makes a Perfect Candidate Love of the technical process. Strong, organized attitude and high energy.
Experience managing projects midâcycle, not solely at the start or end. Appreciation of scale differences between small teams and large teams, and ability to adapt project management accordingly. Ideal Domain Knowledge & Preferred Industry Experience Candidates should have 3â5 years of experience managing largeâscale technical embedded software projects (nonâcloud or basic web app work), with handsâon exposure to devices, networks, and resourceâconstrained environments such as limited memory embedded systems.
Strong domain knowledge in embedded and hardwareâfocused development is preferred. Familiarity with automotive industry standards (ISO 26262, ASPICE) and experience supporting embedded customers, including microcontrollers and physical electronic systems, are highly preferable. Pay and Benefits Contract position based out of Ottawa, ON.
