Job Description Job Description Position Summary The Senior Director of Engineering is a senior technical and operational leader at Neumo, responsible for overseeing multiple engineering teams building SaaS solutions integrated into the Neumo platform, including core Business License and Tax (BLT) capabilities. The role combines strategic planning, technical leadership, and organizational management across onshore and nearshore teams. The Senior Director will set technical direction, ensure scalable system design, drive delivery excellence, and cultivate a strong engineering culture rooted in collaboration, innovation, and accountability.
This position reports to the SVP of Engineering and is a remote-first opportunity. Duties & Responsibilities Technical Leadership & Architecture Set and drive the technical vision, architectural roadmap, and best practices for SaaS products integrated into the Neumo platform. Oversee architecture reviews, system design, and technical standards across multiple development teams.
Ensure that products are scalable, performant, configurable, and extensible to meet customer and market demands. Collaborate closely with the Platform Engineering team to shape platform services and shared capabilities. Team & Organizational Management Lead and scale a growing organization of engineering and QA professionals, including managers, team leads, and individual contributors.
Mentor engineering leaders and senior technical talent, providing coaching, career development, and succession planning. Build an inclusive, high-performing, and collaborative culture that supports innovation, ownership, and technical excellence. Project & Delivery Management Drive the successful delivery of multiple concurrent initiatives, ensuring on-time, high-quality releases that meet customer and business expectations.
Define and manage engineering KPIs, delivery metrics, and quality standards to continuously improve team performance. Proactively identify risks, resource constraints, and cross-team dependencies, leading mitigation efforts and adjustments. Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner with Product Management, UX, Customer Support, and Implementation teams to align product roadmaps, technical capabilities, and customer needs.
Influence cross-departmental strategies and contribute to company-wide planning and operational initiatives. Serve as a key point of escalation for technical and operational issues impacting product delivery or customer outcomes. Innovation, Continuous Improvement & Platform Evolution Advocate for continuous architectural modernization and technical debt reduction initiatives.
Foster a culture of learning, experimentation, and continuous improvement across all teams. Champion investments in automation, testing, observability, and cloud infrastructure to improve system reliability and development velocity. Additional Responsibilities Support strategic projects, M&A integrations, and executive initiatives requiring engineering leadership.
Perform other duties as assigned. Education and Experience: 12+ years of progressive experience in software engineering, with at least 5+ years leading engineering teams in a SaaS environment. Proven experience managing multiple engineering teams, including engineering managers and senior engineers.
Deep technical expertise in PHP, Node.js, and React.js, with the ability to lead architecture and design discussions. Solid background in database-intensive applications using relational database systems (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL). Experience architecting and deploying cloud-native applications, particularly in AWS environments.
Preferred Prior experience transitioning legacy applications to modern cloud-native architectures. Experience implementing and scaling agile practices across multiple teams. Experience working in a remote-first or geographically distributed engineering environment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Strong understanding of microservices, distributed systems, and API-driven architecture. Track record of delivering high-quality SaaS products at scale. Excellent leadership, coaching, and mentoring skills.
Strong collaboration and communication skills, including experience working closely with Product Management and Design organizations. Exceptional organizational, prioritization, and problem-solving abilities. Knowledge of DevOps best practices, including CI/CD, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), and infrastructure as code (Terraform, Ansible).
Work Environment : Office setting with a moderate noise level. The employee will work at an individual workstation, using a telephone and computer. Physical Demands : Must be able to remain seated for extended periods.
Regular use of a computer and other office machinery, such as printers and copy machines. Occasional movement around the office. Frequent communication via telephone.
