USA TODAY Co is seeking an accomplished and passionate Senior Web Video Developer to join our existing team, contributing to the development of next‑generation web apps and platforms using cutting‑edge technologies. The successful candidate will work closely and collaboratively with the entire product development team during all stages of software development. In this role, we will expect you to: Develop, test and release new web video experiences in a timely fashion. Demonstrate keen attention to detail and quality, reflecting our high standards. Be a strong team player who can rapidly and productively adapt to changing business and customer demands.
Work with developers, designers, testers, and product managers to develop and refine new features consistent with our web video product roadmap. Learn and absorb new technologies and techniques quickly. Be innovative: contributing ideas and working with constituents to evaluate and propose approaches that balance speed‑to‑market with what’s needed to sustainably scale our services to an enormous audience.
Maintain awareness of new technologies and industry developments that will affect either our users’ behavior or our ability to deliver value. Perform other essential tasks as assigned. Qualifications: Minimum of 6+ years of experience as a software engineer focusing on creating and supporting vertical and horizontal HTML5 streaming web video player experiences.
Deep understanding of web video performance and reliability: Startup time, rebuffering, bitrate switching Autoplay restrictions & browser policies Mobile vs desktop playback differences Error handling & fallback strategies Metrics & QoE tracking (e.g., startup time, stalls) Experience implementing web video advertising (pre‑roll, mid‑roll, post‑roll ads) Expertise in the following areas: HTML, CSS, JavaScript Responsive / Adaptive Web Design Web site accessibility, web site performance analysis and improvement Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience Familiarity with AI‑driven software development Comfortable working in Linux environments Experience with CDNs like Akamai or Fastly Have used source control (GitHub / GitLab) to manage source code Experience with continuous integration tools such as GitHub Actions or Jenkins Strong debugging skills with the ability to work with peers to solve complex problems Strong knowledge of software development methodologies, practices, and procedures, with an emphasis on Agile methodologies (XP or Scrum) Able to work both independently and in a team environment Able to solve critical issues & work well in time‑critical situations, with occasional availability after hours for emergency troubleshooting The annualized base salary for this role will range between $130,000 and $150,000. Base compensation is reflective of many factors, including, but not limited to, the market in which one lives/works, individual education level, skills, certifications and experience.
