Job Description
Position Overview This role involves applying and expanding knowledge of transmission line engineering, including conductors, hardware, insulation, structures, foundations, and electrical principles, to design transmission lines in the 69kV to 500kV range. Responsibilities include cost analyses, development of design criteria, routing and siting of transmission lines, selector studies for conductors, shielding, grounding and induction studies, and coordinating with vendors and clients to specify transmission line components. The incumbent will direct a small project team and mentor less experienced staff.
Core Responsibilities Design transmission lines within the 69kV to 500kV range. Conduct cost analyses and develop design criteria. Route, sit, and coordinate transmission line projects.
Perform conductor selection, shielding, grounding, and induction studies. Specify components with vendors and clients. Lead a small project team and mentor staff.
Develop proposals and cost estimates for new work. Occasionally travel for site visits and client meetings. Leadership and Modern Tools In this role, you will be expected to lead others who use modern tools.
You are expected to guide the team in taking engineering problems from issue to solution by setting expectations for using data and modern tools such as automation and AI to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost-effective designs. Leaders in these roles may direct automation and processâimprovement work, for example, how teams automate calculations, summarize technical documents, or generate design documentation and guiding when and how AI or autonomous AI tools are used while ensuring results are checked. Overseeing engineers who program or script (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks is valued but not required.
Experience in computer science, artificial intelligence, or software engineering is also valued. Qualifications BS degree from a Canadian Engineering Accreditation Boardâaccredited undergraduate program or a U.S. ABETâaccredited program.
Proficiency with PLSâCADD software to review transmission line models. Seven or more years of experience on transmission line projects, including design, cost estimate development, schedule creation, and coordination. Knowledge to verify/rightâofâway requirements, conductor sags/tensions, and construction documents.
Familiarity with design codes and standards such as NESC, IEC, CSA, IEEE, ANSI, IBC, ASCEâ7, AISC, and ACI318. Proficiency with MS Office applications. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Attention to detail. Valued but Not Required Skills Current P.Eng license or ability to obtain one within one year. Experience developing engineering proposals and cost estimates.
Experience with scheduling. Proficiency with PLSâTOWER, SAG10, LPILE, MFAD, ArcGIS, CDEGS, AutoCAD, MicroStation. Work Environment The position is based on a hybrid work schedule, requiring inâoffice work three days per week and offering remote work for two days.

Compensation Salary range: $108,016.00 â $145,755.00. This disclosure complies with all provincial and federal legislation. The total compensation package includes a base salary or hourly rate, a comprehensive advantages package, and eligibility for a discretionary annual bonus.
