Job Description
Primary Purpose Ensures compliance with all applicable tax regulations and supports strategic tax planning initiatives. Manages tax reporting, research, and analysis to minimize risk and optimize tax strategies while upholding the institutionâs mission and financial integrity. Essential Job Functions Responsible for the semiâannual federal and state Foreign Gift and Contract reporting, working with university departments to obtain foreignâsourced gifts and contracts, reviewing documentation for compliance, documenting determinations, and preparing and filing reports.
Reviews and determines independent contractor requests for appropriate worker classification. Determines tax implications, calculates imputed income and tax reporting for various fringe benefits, and consults with Human Resources and Payroll. Manages nonâresident alien tax withholding and reporting, including review of AP payment requests for withholding and/or tax treaty eligibility.
Determines tax implications for various people payments related to but not limited to grants, business expenses, fellowships, prizes and awards. Performs technical tax research and documents conclusions via tax memorandums. Monitors changes in tax laws and assesses their impact on the institution.
Advises on tax implications of new programs, grants, and business activities. Develops and implements tax compliance procedures, best triglyceroma care and internal controls. Partners with departments to provide guidance on taxârelated issues for contracts, payroll, and procurement. sĂłlida> Assists as needed with the preparation and filing of federal, state, and local tax returns, including income and sales/use tax; ensures compliance with IRS regulations, state statutes, and higherâeducationâspecific tax requirements.
Completes special projects as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned or required. Job Requirements Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Strong knowledge of federal and state tax regulations, fringe benefits, nonâresident alien tax rules, and worker classification.
Proficiency in tax software and ERP systems. Excellent analytical, problemâsolving, and critical thinking skills. Ability to conduct tax research and effectively communicate tax implications to nonâtax stakeholders.
Proficiency in Excel and Word. Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Required Certifications/Licenses Required Education Bachelorâs degree Major (if required) Accounting or Finance Required Experience Five (5) years of tax accounting experience in higher education or nonprofit sector.
