Great British Energy is looking for a Senior Risk Manager â Operational to join our GBE Local Directorate Team. This role will play a key part in contributing to projects, objectives, and wider organisational goals. Location: Edinburgh (also open to applicants based in Aberdeen; advertised separately on LinkedIn).
Key Responsibilities Lead and continually enhance GBEâs operational risk management framework, policies, and methodologies Oversee GBEâs operational risk governance processes, ensuring compliance with regulatory and internal standards Provide guidance to firstâline teams on risk policies, standards and governance expectations Ensure strong, evidenceâbased oversight of operational risk across all business units Lead enterprise-wide risk identification exercises, including scenario analysis and emerging risk assessments Oversee business risk and control selfâassessments, ensuring consistency and challenge Develop and oversee an operational incident management framework, including root cause analysis and lessons learned Ensure timely escalation, tracking, and closure of operational risk issues Provide analysis on trends, themes, and systemic risks Contribute to resilience testing, business continuity planning, and supplier risk activities Produce highâquality operational risk reporting and tracking, suitable for Executive and Board level Ensure risk data quality, consistency, and transparency across the organisation Build strong relationships with firstâline teams to embed a proactive risk culture Provide challenge, coaching and support to improve risk awareness and decisionâmaking Collaborate crossâfunctionally on strategic or change initiatives Qualifications and Experience Extensive experience in operational risk management within a regulated environment Strong understanding of operational risk frameworks, controls testing, incident management, and risk assessment Analytical capability with the ability to interpret data and distil insights Excellent communication and stakeholder management capabilities The ability to be a selfâstarter, and confidence to build processes and policies from the ground up Degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, or related field; professional qualifications (FRM, CFA) desirable Experience in energy, utilities, financial services, or another complex operational sector Knowledge of regulatory frameworks applicable to the organisation Industry risk qualifications (e.g. IRM, CORM etc) Confident challenger with strong relationshipâbuilding skills Proactive, detailâfocused, and comfortable working independently Strong written and verbal communication skills Personal Qualities Takes ownership, shows confidence in decisionâmaking, and is willing to challenge constructively Focuses on delivering meaningful outcomes and making a positive, lasting impact Works collaboratively, valuing different perspectives and building inclusive relationships Proactive and adaptable, with a curiosity to explore new ideas and improve ways of working Resilient and resourceful in a fastâpaced environment #J-18808-Ljbffr
