Role Description The Senior Project Design Engineer will lead the technical design and delivery of solar energy projects, ensuring solutions are efficient, safe, and aligned with client requirements and regulatory standards. In this full-time on-site role based in Sheffield, the individual will produce detailed engineering designs, drawings, and specifications for solar PV systems, coordinate with internal teams and external partners, and support project planning and execution.

Day-to-day responsibilities include performing site assessments, analyzing energy performance, selecting appropriate system components, and optimizing system layouts. The role also involves reviewing technical documentation, contributing to cost estimates, supporting proposals, and providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers. The Senior Project Design Engineer will collaborate closely with sales, operations, and installation teams to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.

Qualifications Strong background in electrical or renewable energy engineering, with experience in designing solar PV systems and related infrastructure. Proficiency in engineering design tools and software (e.g., CAD platforms, PV system design software) and the ability to interpret technical drawings and schematics. Knowledge of relevant UK standards, building regulations, and grid connection requirements for solar installations.

Experience in project coordination, including planning, scheduling, and collaborating with cross-functional teams and external contractors. Analytical skills to conduct site assessments, energy yield calculations, and performance optimization. Excellent communication skills to present technical information clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Ability to work on-site in Sheffield, manage multiple projects, and make informed decisions in a fast-paced environment. Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or a related discipline; advanced qualifications or professional registration are an asset.
