Your Opportunity We are seeking a Senior Hydrotechnical Engineer / Coastal Modeler to join our Markham office, with consideration for other Ontario locations. You will be part of the Water Resources Technical Team within Stantec’s Environmental Services Business Line. Your Key Responsibilities Lead and deliver coastal and hydrotechnical modelling assignments from scope definition through to final reporting, applying sound engineering judgement and working with minimal supervision.
Develop, calibrate, validate, and apply numerical hydrodynamic models (e.g., MIKE 3, MIKE 21, TELEMAC) to support coastal and river engineering work, including environmental impact assessments, remedial designs, and risk evaluations. Define modelling approaches and technical work plans (assumptions, scenarios, boundary conditions, data needs, and acceptance criteria) and clearly communicate limitations and uncertainty to project teams and clients. Provide technical leadership within multidisciplinary teams (e.g., water quality specialists, hydrogeologists, geochemists, and engineers), coordinating inputs and integrating findings into defensible recommendations.
Provide guidance and peer support to project managers and technical staff on hydrodynamic/coastal modelling topics, including mentoring and technical review. Prepare quality technical deliverables (reports, figures, and model documentation) and perform QA/QC reviews of models and reporting to meet Stantec standards and client/regulatory expectations. Support business development by contributing to proposals, developing scopes, and preparing work plans, schedules, and budgets for modelling and hydrotechnical work.
Undertake focused technical research to resolve project-specific issues, evaluate methods, and support defensible design decisions. Perform primarily office-based work, involving extended periods of computer use and data analysis, with periodic coordination with project teams and clients. Education and Experience Graduate degree in Engineering with a focus on hydrodynamics or coastal modelling. Minimum 15 years of relevant consulting experience in coastal and/or hydrodynamic modelling. Regular use of hydrodynamic modelling tools (e.g., MIKE 3, MIKE 21, TELEMAC).
Professional registration (P.Eng.) or eligibility is required. Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
Pay Range Locations Outside of Lower Mainland -- BC & Various locations in Ontario: $135,700.00 - $185,700.00 Annually Pay Transparency In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
