Overview Leidos is seeking a Senior Distribution Engineer in the Allentown, PA area who is passionate about electric utility design engineering. The role involves ensuring high‑quality design for Leidos electric utility customers. Key Responsibilities Perform design engineering for Leidos electric utility customers.
Develop work packages for OH, UG, URD, and Make Ready, using customer GIS and WMS systems such as EFD, AUD, Smallworld, ArcGIS, Infor, EAM, STORMS, and Maximo. Manage scope, schedule, and budget of assigned work. Perform functional tasks, planning, and customer follow‑up.
Analyze scope and maintain schedule adherence to advocate client priorities. Initiate continuous improvement to workflow processes that drive efficiency and high‑quality standards. Coordinate conflicting utilities and other field engineering design requirements; assess and develop large design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments, work permit development, easements, and ROW applications.
Work in both field and office; attend local or regional customer‑site visits to collect field data. Travel This position has remote‑working capabilities but requires the candidate to be located within a commutable distance of Allentown, PA. Availability for in‑person meetings and assignments throughout the customer territory in Pennsylvania on an as‑needed basis is expected.
Background Requirements 4+ years of experience working directly with an electric utility or consulting company performing design engineering for electric distribution. Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET accredited institution; additional relevant experience or certifications may be considered in lieu of a degree. Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required, with ability to obtain licensure in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Experience and proficiency with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC). Experience with structural analysis, guying calculations, cable pulling calculations, coordination of protective devices, and electric demand and fault current calculations. Reliable transportation for local or regional customer‑related travel.
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Additional Preferred Experience Estimating costs, developing a BOM, calculating CIAC. Use of design tools such as Pole Foreman, Pull Planner, and Katapult.
Work‑management software and job estimating software. CAD or MicroStation for electrical distribution design. Providing QA and QC for design projects.
High level organization and project management skills. Ability to train entry‑level resources and create process documents. Professional Attributes Collaborative attitude and inclusivity of diverse backgrounds.
