Job Description
Senior Database Engineer ā Vienna, VA We are looking for a Senior Database Engineer to support largeāscale government operations by designing, implementing, and maintaining enterprise geospatial databases. The role focuses on Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, SAP HANA and Esri products. Responsibilities Design and implement robust, scalable, and secure database solutions to support missionācritical applications.
Collaborate with crossāfunctional teams during all phases of implementation, including requirements, analysis, design, build/configuration, and deployment. Configure and maintain database environments, including backup, restore, high availability, and disaster recovery strategies. Monitor and tune database performance using industryāstandard tools and methodologies (such as query optimization and indexing strategies).
Implement data security measures, access controls, and compliance standards across environments. Automate routine database loading, maintenance, and monitoring tasks to improve efficiency. Provide technical guidance and best practices for database design, migration, and integration projects.
Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelorās degree in computer science, mathematics, GIS, or a related STEM field. 5+ years of handsāon experience in database design, administration, and optimization for Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or SAP HANA. Familiarity with database design principles, data loading techniques, backup and recovery solutions, performance monitoring and tuning, database maintenance, and security.
Scripting skills in SQL and Python for automation and data workflows. Active or current (within two years of active) Top Secret Security Clearance with SCI eligibility. Preferred Qualifications Experience in technical support or customerāfacing GIS roles.
Experience with data conversion or migration. Knowledge of Linux and UNIX environments. Familiarity with web mapping and remote sensing tools.
Proficiency in Python scripting and SQL. GIS certifications. Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Knowledge of Linux, UNIX, and/or Windows environments.
Exposure to geospatial concepts such as spatial data types, coordinate systems, and spatial indexing. Ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts to technical peers and nonātechnical project managers or customers. Ability to work independently and yet be effective within a team setting.
Must be capable of managing multiple efforts with timeārelated constraints in a fastāpaced contracting environment. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with diverse internal and external stakeholder groups and individuals. Friendly presence, helpful attitude, good interpersonal skills, and ability to work well with others.
Excellent skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and other Office applications. Proficient with Microsoft Office Applications, and experience working in a home office setting, as well as the ability to train end users on frequently asked technical issues. Ability to provide technical assistance and support over the phone; good phone skills, professional demeanor, and previous customer service experience strongly desired.
