Role Overview NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non‑clinical professions. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people. The Role An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly skilled and motivated Senior Charge Nurse to lead within a specialised haemato‑oncology inpatient unit.
This pivotal leadership role is within a 10‑bedged haemato‑oncology service, delivering a comprehensive, patient‑centred approach to care. You will utilise advanced clinical knowledge and highly developed skills to ensure the delivery of safe, effective, and compassionate care to patients with complex needs. You will provide visible and effective leadership to the nursing and wider multidisciplinary team, ensuring high standards of care are consistently maintained.
You will be responsible for managing the ward environment, workforce and resources to support efficient service delivery and achieve excellent patient outcomes. The successful candidate will promote a culture of continuous improvement, quality assurance and professional development, ensuring care is delivered in line with local and national standards and best practice. Duration, Location, and Working Pattern Permanent post Based within Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Monday to Friday 36-hour post Key Responsibilities Deliver high‑quality, clinically effective patient care at all times, including care outside the ward area.
Manage a varied caseload, caring for patients receiving systemic anti‑cancer therapies, supportive care throughout the cancer journey and end‑of‑life care. Support staff and patients in emotionally difficult situations, maintaining emotional resilience in a challenging speciality. Maintain professional credibility and build effective working relationships across all staff groups.
Qualifications and Experience Registered Nurse with NMC registration relevant to the clinical area, supported by a first degree or evidence of continuing professional development equivalent to Level 9 of the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF). Significant post‑registration experience within a relevant clinical setting, with evidence of advanced clinical and professional practice developed through both practical experience and theoretical knowledge. Demonstrable ability to maintain professional credibility and build effective working relationships across all staff groups.
