Overview NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across clinical and non-clinical roles. The Role The opportunity has arisen for Critical Care at Glasgow Royal Infirmary to consolidate their Senior Charge Nurse Team.
Applications are invited from experienced, enthusiastic and innovative candidates interested in developing Intensive Care nursing practice whilst supporting the wellbeing of the team. Critical Care consists of Intensive Care and High Dependency. The units care for a defined patient group who require complex interventions in respiratory (invasive/non-invasive), cardiovascular and renal support.
GRI also provides ICU/HDU tertiary support for Plastics, Pancreatitis, Upper GI, Colorectal and specialist Orthopaedic services. As part of the senior nursing team you will have the ability to shape future Critical Care service development and have an impact on care provision, so it is essential that you remain current and reflective in your knowledge base of key local and corporate issues. The SCN team oversees the everyday management of the entire Critical Care Service, consisting of Surgical High Dependency and Intensive Care. The needs of the wider site increasingly impact patient placement and flow; it is essential that applicants demonstrate awareness of key issues within the overall service.
The focus of the role is to prioritise Quality and Assurance agendas. It is essential applicants can demonstrate appropriate knowledge, skills and experience of supporting teams to achieve these goals. You must possess excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
You should be forward thinking with a strong commitment to personal and professional development and that of colleagues. It is essential that you have previous charge nurse experience and the confidence and ability for sound decision making. Duration, Location, and Working Pattern Location based in Glasgow Royal Infirmary Permanent Contract Full-time position (36 hours per week) and part-time position (29.6 hours per week) Shift pattern are Monday to Sunday, 12 hour shifts Salary is pro-rata for part-time hours Key Responsibilities Clinical Provide clinical leadership, developing innovative ideas to improve the quality and effectiveness of care.
Work collaboratively to set and measure standards of care delivery. Maintain patient records in line with NMC guidelines for records and record keeping. Utilise specialist knowledge and skills to care for patients with complex surgical needs and patients who are critically ill requiring multi-organ support.
Remain up to date with ongoing advances in the technology and specialist equipment required to care for this patient group. Role model. Professional Practice within the legal and ethical framework as established by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and National Legislation to ensure patient interests and well-being are met.
Work within the National Health Service (NHS), NHS Greater Glasgow and Health & Safety Executive (HSE) legislation, policy, guidelines and procedures. Support patients and families to take responsibility for their health and well-being by practising in an open, transparent and inclusive manner, ensuring patients have the relevant information to participate in decisions about their care. Promote and support innovation in clinical practice.
Education Ensure the provision of an appropriate learning environment in line with GGC and national standards. Ensure regular clinical appraisal and feedback for pre- and post-registration nurses. Demonstrate own professional development; provide teaching, guidance, supervision and support for staff acting as resource, mentor, advisor and role model.
Participate in and ensure that practice education support is provided for nurses new to the Critical Care environment. Encourage and support the Critical Care Quality Initiative Programme. Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job First Level Registered Nurse with significant post-registration experience.
Relevant experience and appropriate post-registration qualification or experience. Ability to fulfil criteria outlined in the job description.
