Countryfile Researcher Pool – 2026 Countryfile, BBC One’s flagship factual series, is seeking enthusiastic Researchers to become part of a pool from which appointments can be made when vacancies arise. However, please note that appointment to the pool does not guarantee work. You will research a huge range of fascinating topics – from classics such as wildlife, farming, and the environment, to arts, literature and heritage stories – and will search for novel and unexpected locations in the country’s well‑trodden landscape.

As a Researcher, you’ll be responsible for story development, setting up and scheduling shoots, and working on location alongside both production teams and high‑profile presenters. Responsibilities Research a wide range of topics including wildlife, farming, environment, arts, literature, and heritage stories. Search for novel and unexpected locations in the country’s well‑trodden landscape.

Experience working in TV production as a researcher. Knowledge of the production process and some amount of technical know‑how. Ability to shoot is beneficial but not essential.

Benefits Contracts will be on a Freelance PAYE basis and have varying start dates from August 2026 for a length of 3 months (with a view to extend). Appointment to the pool will not entitle candidates to permanent contracts with the BBC. The pool serves as a database of Researchers who have the necessary skills and experience to work with us, and forms a group of candidates that will be considered as a priority should a PAYE freelance position become vacant.
