Job Description
Job Title: Remote Hardware Engineer This role focuses on designing and building configurable hardware test fixtures and interfaces that enable efficient, repeatable testing of FPGA-based and mixed I/O module cards. You will work closely with integration, verification, and validation teams to translate their test needs into practical, reusable hardware setups and light automation that streamline hardware-in-the-loop and embedded systems testing. Responsibilities Design and build configurable test fixtures for module cards, including FPGA-only, FPGA with software, and mixed I/O configurations.
Create hardware interfaces that allow integration, verification, and validation teams to stimulate, monitor, and verify card behavior without relying on full system setups. Handle a wide range of interfaces, including digital, analog, communications, and backplane or chassis connections, to support flexible test configurations. Support debug activities at the signal level when card or system behavior does not match expectations.
Develop light automation using tools such as Python, LabVIEW, TestStand, or similar technologies to make tests repeatable, maintainable, and shareable across the team. Translate test and validation requirements into practical, robust, and reusable hardware setups rather than one-off builds. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure test fixtures and interfaces meet technical requirements and are easy to use in the lab environment.
Document test fixture designs, interfaces, and automation scripts to support ongoing maintenance and reuse. Essential Skills Proven experience in hardware testing and hardware design, including end-to-end development of test fixtures or test hardware. Hands‑on experience with FPGA board‑level testing, even if not owning the full FPGA design.
Experience with hardware‑in‑the‑loop or embedded systems testing environments. Demonstrated ability to design and develop custom test equipment or fixtures for hardware validation. Strong lab and debug experience using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and related test and measurement equipment.
Proficiency with LabVIEW for test development or automation. Proficiency with Python for scripting, test automation, or data collection. Experience with TestStand or similar test sequencing frameworks.
Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience integrating digital, analog, and communication interfaces into cohesive test setups. Background in working with backplane or chassis connections for modular hardware systems.
Ability to create reusable, configurable test solutions rather than single‑use hardware builds. Strong problem‑solving skills and a methodical approach to signal‑level debugging. Effective communication skills to collaborate with verification and validation teams and to document test solutions clearly.
Work Environment You will work primarily in a lab environment focused on hardware‑in‑the‑loop and embedded systems testing. The role involves frequent hands‑on interaction with test fixtures, FPGA‑based boards, mixed I/O modules, and backplane or chassis‑based systems. You will regularly use lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other electronic test instruments.
The position relies on software tools including Python, LabVIEW, and TestStand to implement light automation and make tests repeatable across the team. The environment encourages collaboration with cross‑functional engineering teams and emphasizes practical, reusable hardware solutions that support efficient verification and validation workflows.
