Job Description

Description West Springfield, MA, USA Position Summary Provide Reliability Engineering assistance to Maintenance Managers and Maintenance Planners to maintain and improve plant facilities, equipment and operations. The role will be located onsite at one of our plant locations (VT, MA, NY) with travel as needed. What you'll be doing Provide “expert” troubleshooting assistance as required to Maintenance and Plant Services personnel.

Share in project implementation, controlling quality, duration, cost and thoroughness of all project work. Ensure that good housekeeping and safe work practices are followed, instructing crews in proper equipment usage when appropriate. Initiate cost‑effective changes, modifications and updates to plant facilities and machinery.

Provide Reliability Engineering assistance to Plant Leadership to maintain and improve plant facilities, equipment and operations. Maintain new or revised tooling, equipment and facilities drawings, schematics and documents in electronic files. Provide training to maintenance personnel on production equipment and plant equipment such as ammonia and steam systems, HVAC systems, fire and security systems and process systems.

Training is both classroom and on‑the‑job. Assist mechanics with machine shop activities, including alternate sourcing to reduce parts costs on repair parts normally bought from OEM suppliers. Participate in the maintenance excellence process to facilitate action plans that will reduce operating costs and improve reliability.

Participate in investigation, development and implementation of all new capital equipment and assist the Maintenance Manager with major modifications of existing equipment and processes. Assist in improving readiness of drawing files for maintenance use. Support the development of teams to improve problem solving and job development.

Review CMMS equipment history data and production downtime data to accumulate, trend and analyze performance data, and modify collection procedures and codes as needed. Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) on high‑cost failures and high‑downtime situations to identify engineering solutions. Review planned preventative maintenance (PPM) data versus equipment histories to identify tasks needing adjustment.

Determine/review equipment lubrication requirements, methods and frequencies to optimize equipment and component operating life. Participate in developing predictive maintenance analysis techniques including vibration analysis, infrared scans, corrosion analysis and fatigue rate analysis. Conduct analysis of spare parts program to increase standardization and interchangeability.

Assist in analyzing work productivity of maintenance personnel to ensure proper focus on continuing improvement. Conduct analyses of equipment history data that facilitate root cause analysis on equipment failures and production downtime. Conduct life‑cycle cost analysis on high‑cost components and spare parts.

Support plant continuous improvement initiatives. Provide indirect supervision/direction to preventive/predictive maintenance personnel and support the PPM program. Continuously search for ways to eliminate maintenance work and lengthen mean time between failures (MTBF).

Promote safety and quality. Develop and implement new systems and procedures. Utilize Design Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (DFMEA) to assist in the design of new equipment to preventively address production, quality and safety risks.

Manage effective Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) for new equipment purchases. Utilize Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) methodologies to drive maintenance excellence. Analyze processes with Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (FMEA) and implement risk mitigation actions.

Measure continuous improvements to equipment reliability with KPI’s such as OEE, MTR, MTBF and Preventive Maintenance Effectiveness. Leverage visual management tools and techniques for real‑time issue response. Deliver ongoing cost savings to the organization.

Perform other duties as required. Job Specific Skills Professional contacts/relationships within and outside Agri‑Mark; strong communication and business management skills in planning, scheduling and directing. Initial training in safety and management, CMMS, Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project, AutoCAD, electrical, controls and refrigeration.

Physical ability to move objects up to 40 lb and perform standard office tasks. Comfortable working in an environment with extreme temperatures, dust, fumes, odors and loud noises. Structured problem solving, root cause analysis, statistical analysis and effective collaboration.

BS Engineering Degree (Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering preferred) or a 4‑year degree. Salary range $90,000 – $110,000 per year. Benefits Competitive salary, 401(k) with company match, tuition reimbursement, comprehensive benefits package.
