Alberta Infrastructure is responsible for delivering about one quarter of the Alberta government’s Capital Plan, addressing provincial infrastructure needs to support key social programs, services, and economic development.
The Ministry designs, builds, manages, and maintains government-owned and operated facilities, collaborating with other ministries to meet the needs of Alberta’s population. It also manages a portfolio of owned and leased facilities while maintaining fiscal accountability. Responsibilities Managing the planning, execution, control, and closure of assigned capital projects within approved scope, cost, and schedule.
Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings. Understanding related contracts language, claim review, and dispute resolution process. Ensuring that school capital projects are delivered in accordance with the requirements of the latest version of the School Capital Manual and approved project scope.
Managing project expenditures and budget management through all stages of implementation to ensure maximum value within approved budget. Working with internal and/or external stakeholders to control the design process and ensure progress along efficient timelines, ensuring design aligns with Ministry design principles. Directing consultants to ensure quality control of deliverables such as building system start‑up/verification reports, design reports, and contract documents, and ensuring completeness and compliance with ministry standards, guidelines, and code requirements including LEED.
Developing ministerial briefings and correspondence on project‑related issues. Determining appropriate project delivery and tender process and evaluating construction bids to determine award of construction contracts. Qualifications University graduation in a field related to the position assignment (e.g., Architecture or Engineering). Four (4) years of directly related experience. Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
Assets Construction Contract Administrator Certification or Project Management Certification. Extensive project management experience with the planning, design, construction, and commissioning of facilities. Contract management experience, and considerable experience managing interdisciplinary teams and resources, and a diverse portfolio of building projects.
Notes This position is a permanent, full‑time role with the standard weekly work hours of 36.25, Monday to Friday (8:15 am – 4:30 pm). Location: Calgary, AB. Required Travel: 25 – 50 %.
