The Opportunity McElhanney is seeking a Project Engineer to support our rapidly growing mining and resource sector projects across British Columbia and the Yukon Territory. Based in Kamloops, this role includes engineering, design, project management, and construction supervision support at active and developing mine sites in Western Canada. The position is well suited for an engineer developing into a technical lead and project manager, with interests spanning construction support, operational interface, and client‑facing project delivery.

The role offers a mix of office‑based work and seasonal field support at mining projects. McElhanney’s mining group has experienced considerable growth and includes internal expertise in Mining Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, supported by trusted external mechanical engineering partners. This role provides exposure to a wide range of underground and open pit mining projects, from greenfield development through to operational support.

What You’ll Do Coordinate and collaborate with multidisciplinary internal teams and external consultants, including mining, civil, geotechnical, electrical, and mechanical. Take on increasing ownership of mining and heavy industrial projects, supporting scope development, budgeting, scheduling, and execution. Provide technical and practical engineering support to mining clients, with an initial focus on underground mining operations.

Support construction and operational activities at active mine sites, including contractor coordination and issue resolution. Prepare weekly and monthly project progress reports for internal and client use. Plan and execute fieldwork, including site visits, safety assessments, subcontractor coordination, and data collection.

Support senior team members with client communication, proposal preparation, and pursuit of new work. Assist with fee proposals, RFP responses, and client clarifications. Provide discipline‑specific project support to other McElhanney divisions as required.

Support site‑specific mine engineering needs, excluding detailed mine design, but including construction, operational, and project execution support. What You’ll Bring Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering. 3–8 years of relevant experience in mining engineering, mine operations, or heavy industrial construction. PEng designation with EGBC, or eligibility for immediate registration; senior EITs are strongly encouraged to apply.

Experience with underground mining projects is a strong asset; exposure to open pit operations is beneficial. Working knowledge of project management fundamentals, including contracts, scheduling, cost control, and change management. Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MS Project, or Primavera P6 is considered an asset.

Willingness to support field‑based work, including seasonal travel and rotational assignments at remote mining sites, with rotations typically two weeks on / two weeks off, and 12‑hour shifts while on site. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear technical and progress documentation. Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team.

What Can We Offer You Salary range: $94,000 to $120,000 per annum.
