PRINCIPAL DESIGN ENGINEER

Job Description A Principal Design Engineer will lead the development of complex high-voltage (HV) substation projects, providing technical leadership in physical, protection, or control design. He oversees design reviews, ensure compliance with international codes (IEC, IEEE), mentor junior staff, and coordinate with clients, vendors, and multi-disciplinary teams. Key Responsibilities and Capabilities Design Leadership: Leads primary (layouts, equipment specs, bus work) or secondary (control, protection, SCADA) engineering for MV/HV substations.

Technical Expertise: Conducts complex studies (earthing, load flow, short circuit) and creates, reviews, or approves technical documentation like single-line diagrams, cable schedules, and interconnection diagrams. Project Management & Quality: Ensures projects meet safety, budget, and schedule targets. Develops and enforces engineering standards, quality procedures, and "as-built" documentation.

Collaboration: Coordinates with civil/structural teams for foundation/structure design and liaises with clients and vendors to resolve design issues. Mentorship: Mentors junior engineers and contributes to technical bids and proposals. Requirements Required Skills and Experience Experience: Extensive experience in substation design, usually in consulting firms or utilities.

Software Proficiency: Experience with design tools such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, PLS-CADD, ETAP, or specialized substation design software. Knowledge: Deep understanding of IEC/IEEE standards, grounding, and high-voltage equipment specification. Experience: 8-10 years of experience in mechanical/civil drafting, specifically in power transmission, utility, or industrial projects.
