Job Title Operating Engineer Department Mechanical Operations Trades | Mechanical | Building Operations | Facilities Salary $6,936.00 CAD per month Job Summary Operating Engineers are responsible for the operation, maintenance, and inspection of all mechanical systems and equipment within campus facilities under the PEBPVRSR. Responsibilities Operate and maintain regulated mechanical equipment systems, including boilers, chillers, heat exchangers, air receivers, and other equipment. Perform regulatory inspections and assessments of steam boiler plants, chiller plants, district energy systems, laboratory ventilation systems, air handling units, compressors, and related equipment.
Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and operational logbooks. Conduct routine maintenance such as checking belt drives, aligning fan coil belts, assessing pump operations, draining moisture and oil from air receivers, replacing filters, and performing emergency generator tests. Use the Building Management System (BMS) to evaluate equipment performance, identify malfunctions, and control local and remote equipment.
Perform routine chemical treatment tests and maintain relevant records. Answer service and emergency calls, assess repairs, and determine required actions. Investigate emergency calls and render equipment and systems safe, following the Emergency Communication Protocol.
Report on the general condition of mechanical equipment rooms and take corrective action on housekeeping or safety hazards. Perform other duties as required. Minimum Qualifications BC 4th Class Power Engineer Certificate of Competency. 3‑5 years experience in a building mechanical systems environment.
Valid B.C. Class 5 driver’s license. Knowledge of Windows‑based software.
Knowledge of building operations, including BAS, HVAC, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and life safety systems. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of Windows‑based software. Supervision Reports to the Operations Head; may receive guidance from Operations Sub‑Heads as needed. Provides no direct supervision.
