Job Description
Overview The Nurse Manager functions as a clinical expert and is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing or supervising direct patient care. They are the designated first-line supervisory authority and are responsible and accountable for the operation of their assigned units. They are self-directed and influence care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team and leading innovative process improvements and initiatives.
Qualifications Basic Requirements: English Language Proficiency In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f) - no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: ACEN or CCNE OR Individuals attending a master\'s level bridge program in nursing who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor\'s degree in Nursing may have the opportunity to become registered as a nurse with a state licensing board prior to completion of the bridge program Upon achievement of a State license - the individual may be appointed on temporary basis and later converted to a permanent appointment upon successful completion and graduation from the bridge program (Reference VA Handbook 5005 - Appendix G6) OR Foreign-educated graduates: possession of a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing Credit for foreign nursing education higher than an associate degree requires a formal degree equivalency validation from a recognized evaluation service Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) Exception: may be appointed at entry step on a 120-day temporary appointment while pursuing licensure (may be extended up to two years) Grade determinations and related criteria are described in the VA qualification standard documentation Preferred Experience: Prior management and leadership experience; prior OR experience (3+ years) Physical Requirements: see detailed listing in the qualification standard (lifting, carrying, reaching, vision, hearing, mobility, etc.) Duties Designate First Line Supervisory Authority; responsible and accountable for the operation of the assigned units and provide coverage for other RN Managers as needed Direct and supervise orientation, training, development of staff, and evolution of individual staff performance Function as a role model, educator, practitioner, and supervisor providing leadership to the team Influence care outcomes by collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to remove barriers and implement evidence‑based programs and processes Engage in professional organizations to enhance leadership and career growth Adhere to ethical principles in decision‑making and foster accountability at personal, organizational, and staff levels Equip staff with tools for competent care and promote an environment of accountability for high‑quality, cost‑effective outcomes Promote alliances across the care continuum with active listening, engagement, and emotional intelligence Contribute to the development of care delivery models and environmental design to ensure accessible, affordable, and equitable patient care Ensure compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards; align nursing and clinical objectives with organizational strategic outcomes Promote a positive workplace aligned with the organization\'s vision and mission Maintain knowledge and ensure compliance with regulator and accreditation standards, directives, policies, and SOPs Provide peers with informal constructive feedback and support knowledge sharing to deliver safe, quality nursing care Foster a safe and supportive environment for professional development of healthcare professionals Contribute a professional nursing perspective in interdisciplinary discussions Evaluate outcomes of evidence‑based decisions and practice changes for individuals, groups, and populations; responsible for documented outcomes at the program or service level #J-18808-Ljbffr
