Job Description

Our client, an engineering firm specializing in renewable energy, water, and environmental solutions, is seeking a Mid-Level Project Engineer – Fisheries to support the planning, design, and delivery of fish passage projects across fisheries, hydropower, and ecological restoration. This role will perform structural (concrete and steel) design and/or hydraulic analysis while working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams. The ideal candidate brings at least 6 years of relevant engineering experience, professional licensure (or commitment to obtain), and proficiency with AutoCAD and 2D/3D modeling tools to support collaborative design efforts in Canada and the United States.

Pay range Pay range: $102,000 - $120,000 CAD DOE Benefits 401(k) with 4% employer match and 100% immediate vesting 10 Floating Holidays Company Paid Short-Term Disability and Life Insurance Tuition Assistance Employee Ownership Responsibilities Serve a foundational role on multi‑disciplinary teams of engineers and scientists delivering fish passage projects, including technical fishways, nature‑like fishways, and structures associated with hydropower facilities. Perform structural design (concrete and steel) and/or hydraulic analysis in collaboration with other engineering disciplines.

Contribute to fisheries engineering projects from analysis and design through construction support. Develop engineering designs in consultation with civil, structural, hydraulics, geotechnical, mechanical, and electrical engineering team members. Support design drawing development using 2D and 3D modeling tools to facilitate collaboration within the design team.

Apply creative, problem‑solving skills to unique fish passage challenges where no two projects are the same. Collaborate with regulators and biologists during project development, where applicable. Participate in projects across fisheries, hydropower, renewable energy, and ecological restoration in Canada and the United States.

Learn from and be mentored by senior and principal engineers in fish passage, structural design, hydraulic analysis, and related facilities design. Build and maintain productive working relationships with team members and clients to support complex engineering solutions. Requirements Licensed Professional Engineer (PEng) or commitment to obtaining licensure within one year.

Minimum of 6 years of experience in fisheries engineering or a closely related field. Experience designing structural components and/or performing hydraulic analyses as part of a multi‑disciplinary engineering team. Proficiency with AutoCAD; experience with Revit and/or MEP to support 2D and 3D modeling and team collaboration.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team from analysis and design through construction. Authorized to work in Canada and able to acquire authorization to work in the United States as project needs dictate. Willingness to travel and possession of a valid driver’s license.

Ability to obtain additional state or provincial engineering licenses as required. Previous experience specifically in fisheries engineering. Structural (concrete and steel) design background with an interest in fish passage design.

Knowledge of fisheries engineering guidelines, structural design standards and codes, and hydraulic design principles. Familiarity with regulatory and permitting processes related to fisheries engineering projects. Experience with fish hatcheries and/or nature‑like fishways.

Experience collaborating with regulators and biologists. Work sponsorship is not available at this time. Third‑party candidates will not be considered for this position.
