Manager, Software Engineering

Job Summary The Credit Platform team builds the core foundation behind PayPal’s global credit ecosystem, powering products such as Credit Cards, Buy Now Pay Later, Working Capital, and Merchant Term Loans for millions of customers and businesses worldwide. In this role, you will lead a team of engineers building foundational backend systems critical to PayPal’s credit products. Essential Responsibilities Directly manages software development projects (including program management) and execution through individual contributors.

May also lead project teams across platforms or groups. Implements processes to drive strong operational hygiene for all components and systems within their group. Responsible for the delivery of projects, including quality and timeliness, that impact their domain and potentially one other.

Demonstrates strong tactical ability by managing the roadmap for a scrum team responsible for technical issues of diverse scope where analysis requires an understanding of current business or trends. Competent at communicating technical issues with non‑technical audiences. Analyzes multiple sources of information and identifies and resolves complex technical, operational, and organizational problems relating to software development.

Collaborates with direct team, managers in the organization, and stakeholders such as Product Owners and PMO. Minimum Qualifications 5+ years relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Role Scope & Impact Lead and grow a high‑performing engineering team delivering scalable, low‑latency, and highly reliable credit systems.

Own a defined platform area with significant business impact on several credit initiatives. Drive execution and technical direction for complex, cross‑team initiatives. What You’ll Do Drive predictable delivery by managing priorities, risks, and cross‑team dependencies.

Partner with Product, Risk, and several PayPal teams to build robust solutions. Guide architecture and ensure systems meet high standards for reliability, observability, and data integrity. Establish and track SLOs, KPIs, and operational metrics to continuously improve system performance.

Champion engineering excellence across code quality, testing, and incident management. Balance short‑term delivery with long‑term platform scalability and maintainability. Leadership & Growth Hire, develop, and retain top engineering talent.

Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and psychological safety. Mentor senior engineers and help grow future technical and people leaders. Drive clarity in goals, roles, and expectations aligned with broader organizational priorities.
