SUMMARY OF PURPOSE / MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES The Manager, Biowaste Systems, is an important role in the Technical Services department at Sanofi Pasteur, Toronto site.
The manager will provide management and leadership of the Biowaste systems platform including Egg Waste, by directing the relationships and processes for execution of the biowaste systems documented procedures. This position ensures that the reliable operation of the biowaste systems meets the regulatory requirements, with the goal of minimal operational interruptions to our customer. This position also plays a key role in development and implementation of the Technical Services strategic vision, driving consistency of the biowaste systems teams, partnership with other platforms in Technical Services Department as well as other interval clients on site to reach the goal of a First‑Class service organization.
Main Responsibilities Manage Team (40%): Lead the unionized team to ensure reliable operation of the egg waste and other biowaste systems, logbook recording and other tasks are followed. Integrate team with other functions in TS, HSE and production departments to achieve regulatory compliance, and to support 24/7 site operation. Review Work (15%): Ensure work order (WO) completion every month are at or above target.
These work orders include work implemented by internal teams and external contractors. WO closures are properly reviewed and completed. Documentation (10%): Initiate, review or approve technical documents for biowaste systems (SOP, CCR, and CAPA).
Subject Matter Expert (15%): Act as the key SME to interact with HSE department for any potential environmental related discussions and SOP reviews. Act as key SME to directly or indirectly respond to regulatory questions and interviews. Planning & Scheduling (10%): Work with planning and scheduling function to ensure planned shutdown process are properly scheduled and resources are planned.
Finance (5%): Support cost‑savings initiatives and adhere to the department budget. Ensure cost‑effective and efficient use of personnel. Engineering (5%): Work with Engineering team to assist in different phases of project for new biowaste systems.
Ensure technical review from URS, P&I D to commissioning protocols are properly prepared and are aligned with compliance requirements, current SOPs, maintenance standards and current best practices. HSE REQUIREMENT / STATEMENT Supervises and monitors compliance with employment and health and safety legislation to ensure that employees work within the policies, procedures and regulations applicable to their work. Participates in the investigation of incidents and work‑related illnesses.
Responds promptly to all health and safety concerns or incidents and completes the appropriate documentation in a timely manner. Takes every reasonable precaution to ensure the health and safety of staff. Ensures that protective equipment and clothing required is used by staff.
Cooperates and assists the Joint Health and Safety Committee in carrying out its functions. Advises staff of any potential or actual health and safety hazard of which they are aware. CONTEXT OF THE JOB / MAJOR CHALLENGES Manage unionized staff within the CLA.
Maintain all site biowaste systems in a reliable and compliant state. PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS Office Environment Lifting: Less than 50 lbs. About You Education / Certifications Bachelor's degree or equivalent; preferably in Environmental or Chemical Engineering. Experience 2-5 years of experience in manufacturing, maintenance, or related field. Preferably in pharmaceutical, biopharma, chemical processing, cosmetic, or waste industry.
Familiar with automation systems including but not limited to DeltaV, building automation systems, facility monitoring systems. Strong people skills with experience in managing unionized team with demonstrated ability to proactively work with cross‑functional teams. In‑depth understanding of biowaste systems and related regulatory compliance requirement.
