Job Description
Main duties of the job The Lung Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) will work collaboratively with the wider multi-disciplinary team to provide care, advice and support to patients with a potential or confirmed lung cancer diagnosis. The role involves promoting the Lung Cancer Best Timed Diagnostic patient pathway and acting as a patient advocate in the Sector Lung Cancer Multi‑disciplinary Team meeting. The post holder will be the point of contact for patients and their family/carers, offering support and guidance regarding diagnosis, next steps and follow‑up care.
Duties include attending consultant clinics to facilitate diagnostic testing and providing information and support to patients and families, conducting nurse‑led clinics to deliver symptom control advice and psychological support, and making onward referrals to support services. The CNS will also maintain effective communication with healthcare professionals in both primary and tertiary care settings, and provide expert clinical support and education to other team members.
