Position Purpose Under the authority of the Director of the School of Nursing and direct supervision of the Senior specialist, Practicum, the candidate helps manage all activities leading to the practical training of undergraduate and graduate students in the School of Nursing. Responsibilities include creation of the laboratory and simulation schedule, analysis of foreign licensure requests, coordination of mandatory pre‑clinical trainings, and organization of placement activities.

Responsibilities Identify recruitment needs for practicum placements with the Senior Specialist, Practicum and Lead Advisor, Undergraduate Programs, and develop and organize the schedule for the use of the Simulation Lab for each academic cycle. Manage the online clinical evaluation platform under the directives of the Senior Clinical Practice Coordinator. Organize mandatory pre‑clinical trainings for student placements not managed by the ORM (e.g., gentle persuasive approach training and EPIC documentation training) in collaboration with partnering agencies and trainers; analyze academic schedules for the various cohorts.

Revise the orientation materials for clinical instructors and students, and share updated material with collaborative partners and involved actors. Support users (students, clinical instructors, course coordinators and preceptors) in identifying software issues with the system and redirect them to the help desk, including providing orientation materials, troubleshooting, etc. Communicate with students and advise them in their choice of clinical settings, serving as key resource person for mandatory health and safety modules.

Determine alternative placement options for students who may need readjustment, evaluate consequences on the trajectory, and explain additional steps to meet practicum prerequisites; communicate placement guidelines to course coordinators. Review and assess compliance reports from the student placement risk management advisors to determine appropriate actions for students. Analyze and process multi‑step requests for alumni applying for foreign RN licensure, liaising with Infoservice and licensing bodies.

Validate completion of mandatory health and safety training modules and ensure follow‑up with students. Use the clinical placement management network to maximize placement coordination efficiency, assess IT access needs, plan training, and participate in continuing education efforts for new functions. Assign students to various settings via the network after approvals, considering learning needs, placement history, course objectives, and agency limitations; explain placement structure, timelines, deadlines, and network usage.

Participate in team and faculty meetings, and attend partnering school and clinical partner meetings as required; replace the Senior Specialist, Practicum on relevant committees. Undertake any additional functions delegated by the Senior Specialist, Practicum related to practical training of students. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Nursing Sciences (RN) with at least 3 years of experience, or College degree in Nursing Sciences (RPN) with at least 5 years in a clinical setting.

Minimum 2 years of experience in a coordination or project‑management role. Membership in the College of Nurses of Ontario an asset. Knowledge of the university environment, particularly nursing programs.

Knowledge of clinical placement management applications an asset. Knowledge of principles and policies related to immunization and other pre‑clinical clearance requirements. Proficiency with common computer programs (Excel, Word, Outlook/Calendar).

Planning and coordination experience with strong organizational skills. Leadership, initiative, autonomy and creativity. Negotiation skills, tact, and diplomacy.

Adaptability and decision‑making ability. Excellent team‑working and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate clearly in both official languages.

Bilingualism French and English (spoken and written). Candidates must be rated at the Low Advanced proficiency level or higher for both oral comprehension and reading comprehension in their second official language. The rating is determined by a proficiency test designed by the Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute.
