A DAY IN THE LIFE: As a Hardware Engineer II , youâll design and develop analog, power, and embedded systems for nextâgen spacecraft. Youâll work across multiple projects, collaborating with crossâfunctional teams to deliver highâperformance space hardware from concept to launchâguiding PCB layouts, solving complex challenges, and ensuring signal integrity throughout the design process. Youâll also be deeply involved in performance testing, sustainment support, and the continuous enhancement of missionâcritical electronic systems.
WHAT YOUâLL DO: Design and Develop Hardware Systems: Lead the design, testing, and debugging of analog, power, and embedded boardâlevel electronic systems with highâspeed digital interfaces such as Rocket I/O, Ethernet, PCIâe, DDR, RSâ422, and LVDS. Provide PCB Design Support: Guide internal and external layout teams with stackâup configuration, signal/power integrity requirements, and highâspeed routing constraints. Collaborate Across Disciplines: Work closely with software, firmware (HDL), mechanical, and systems engineers to ensure full subsystem integration; contribute to peer design reviews and mentor junior engineers.
Create and Review Documentation: Develop and review detailed specifications, Interface Control Documents (ICDs), test procedures, and user manuals for new and existing hardware. Conduct Signal and Power Integrity Analysis: Simulate circuitry in SPICE and perform advanced signal and power integrity analysis to ensure robust performance in radiationâ and EMIâsensitive environments. Support Manufacturing and Test: Provide handsâon support for hardware troubleshooting, integration, test automation (e.g., Python, PowerShell), and manufacturing processes throughout the product lifecycle.
YOUâRE AWESOME AT: Embedded Hardware Design: Youâre a schematic design pro, with deep experience in development and debugging of boardâlevel systems. HighâSpeed Interface Design: You know how to design, simulate, and troubleshoot highâspeed digital interfaces, applying best practices in signal integrity. PCB Layout Guidance: You provide clear direction on layout strategies, interface specs, and stackâup configurations to maximize performance.
WHAT YOUâLL NEED: Bachelorâs degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline. 3 or more years of experience designing and developing embedded and boardâlevel electronic hardware. Proficient in highâspeed digital and analog circuit design, including PCIâe, DDR, LVDS, and switching power supplies. Handsâon experience with microprocessorâbased systems, FPGAs, digital logic, memory architectures, and power electronics.
