Are you an experienced Geotechnical Engineer l ooking to progress your career? We're looking for an Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer to join our growing team. We are open to filling this position in our Ottawa, Ontario office.

You're an ideal candidate if you have: A bachelor's degree in Geotechnical Engineering (Civil) from a recognized university; a Masterâs or PhD is considered an asset. At least 5+ years of postâgraduate geotechnical engineering experience, including design work for roads, bridges, dams, buildings, tunneling, and related infrastructure.
Strong proficiency in industryâstandard geotechnical software such as Slope/W, Seep/W, Sigma/W, Settle3D, FLAC, PLAXIS, or equivalent. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, paired with strong organizational abilities and the capacity to manage multiple priorities while delivering highâquality work on time and within budget. Experience conducting and interpreting intrusive and nonâintrusive field investigations, including CPT, SPT and laboratory testing programs.
Registration as a Professional Engineer in Canada and eligibility for licensure with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO). Motivation to provide exceptional client service and enthusiasm for collaborating within a multiâdisciplinary team environment. Experience with MTO foundations investigations and design (considered an asset).
A typical day on the job might look like: Coordinating and managing geotechnical programs, including planning and executing field investigations, completing geotechnical analyses and designs, and preparing reports for highways, roads, bridges, buildings, municipal infrastructure, and land development projects. Completing geotechnical analyses (e.g., slope stability assessment, settlement of soft soils, lateral earth pressures, pile capacities, seismic response, etc.) Completing geotechnical design for shallow and deep foundations, retaining structures, roadway embankments, railways, excavation support systems, tunnels, trenchless installations, staged embankment construction and ground improvement techniques. Collaborating closely with other GEMTEC offices on larger or multiâdisciplinary assignments to deliver integrated project solutions.
Performing project management tasks such as preparing proposals, estimating budgets, developing schedules, managing scope, preparing project summary reports, and maintaining quality throughout the project lifecycle. Mentoring junior staff, providing technical guidance, and supporting their professional growth. Promoting a safe working environment by adhering to health and safety protocols.

Proven ability to lead and execute intrusive and nonâintrusive field investigations, interpret results, oversee advanced laboratory testing and material characterization, and translate findings into practical engineering recommendations. Strong analytical and design skills supported by experience using geotechnical modeling and analysis software such as Slope/W, Seep/W, Sigma/W, Settle3D, FLAC, and PLAXIS. Effective project management capabilities, including budget management, scheduling, proposal development, and maintaining quality deliverables.
Registration as a Professional Engineer in Canada and eligibility for PEO licensure. Excellent communication skills, enabling the preparation of clear, concise reports and successful collaboration with clients, colleagues, and project teams. A commitment to client service, teamwork, and continuous improvement, with the ability to thrive in a dynamic, multiâdisciplinary consulting environment.
Experience with MTO geotechnical requirements and foundations design (an asset). Valid driverâs license and have access to a personal vehicle for work related travel. Salary Range: $75,000.00 - $105,000.00 CAD annually In alignment with Ontarioâs Employment Standards Act and payâtransparency requirements, GEMTEC includes the expected compensation range in publicly advertised job postings for roles based in Ontario.
This range reflects what GEMTEC reasonably anticipates paying for this position. Final compensation will be based on the successful candidateâs education, experience, skills, internal pay equity, specific Ontario location, or other factors unrelated to Ontarioâprotected grounds.
