Job Description

We are looking for a firmware engineer to own the full embedded stack on mission‑critical defence hardware — from bare‑metal bring‑up through to hardened production firmware. You will work directly with hardware engineers and systems architects to deliver code that runs in environments where failure is not an option. What you will do Develop and maintain firmware for ARM Cortex‑M/R targets in C and C++ Design and integrate RTOS‑based (FreeRTOS / Zephyr / ThreadX) task scheduling, IPC, and memory protection Implement and validate secure boot chains, including bootloader signing, chain‑of‑trust enforcement, and anti‑rollback mechanisms Perform bare‑metal bring‑up on new hardware: clock trees, peripheral init, linker scripts, startup code Instrument firmware for real‑time debugging via JTAG/SWD, logic analysers, and oscilloscopes Collaborate with security engineers to align firmware with NIST SP 800‑193 platform resilience requirements.

What we need 5+ years of embedded firmware development in C/C++ for resource‑constrained microcontrollers. Hands‑on RTOS experience — task management, semaphores, queues, watchdog integration. Demonstrable secure boot implementation (TPM, HSM, or SoC‑native root‑of‑trust).

Comfortable at the register level — no HAL dependency required. Active TS/SCI clearance (or eligibility with willingness to obtain). Experience working within or alongside DoD programmes.

Nice to have Experience with DO‑178C, IEC 61508, or MIL‑STD‑882 safety standards. Familiarity with hardware security modules and cryptographic accelerators. Exposure to SBOM generation and firmware supply chain security.

Prior work on RF, sensor fusion, or autonomous platform firmware. #J-18808-Ljbffr
