Engineering Manager โ Data Center Engineering Role Overview We're seeking an Engineering Manager to lead Sunstripe's Data Center Engineering practice, overseeing a multidisciplinary team delivering power, energy systems, and interconnection engineering for data center clients. This role combines deep technical leadership with team management and end-to-end client delivery accountability. The ideal candidate understands the full data center energy ecosystem โ how facility power architecture, renewable generation, BESS, and gas interact to serve data center loads โ and how design and interconnection decisions shape each other across the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities Team Leadership & Practice Management Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary data center engineering team spanning power systems, energy integration, and CFD/thermal disciplines Manage workload allocation, quality assurance, and professional development across the team Build and scale the data center engineering practice in line with Sunstripe's growth strategy Define and drive internal methodologies, tools, and standards for data center engineering delivery Technical Leadership Serve as the senior technical authority on data center power and energy systems โ covering facility power architecture, IT load characteristics, UPS/generator systems, redundancy design, and PUE Lead or oversee energy systems integration studies โ modeling the interaction of solar PV, BESS, and gas generation to meet data center power demands Direct grid interconnection (IX) studies and processes for data center campuses โ bridging facility design and utility/grid requirements Oversee the interaction between data center design and interconnection โ resolving conflicts between load profile, redundancy architecture, ramp rates, and IX requirements Guide CFD and thermal modeling efforts in coordination with the CFD engineering team Stay ahead of market trends โ AI/GPU compute load growth, hyperscale campus models, behind-the-meter energy configurations, and evolving interconnection norms Client Delivery Own end-to-end client delivery across data center engineering engagements โ from scoping and proposals through execution and final reporting Serve as the senior technical point of contact for data center clients, developers, and utilities Ensure all deliverables meet quality, schedule, and commercial commitments Support business development by contributing to proposals, client presentations, and technical positioning Requirements Bachelor's or Master's in Electrical / Power Systems Engineering or related field Deep technical expertise in data center power and energy systems โ facility power architecture, energy infrastructure integration (solar PV, BESS, gas), and grid interconnection Strong understanding of data center power demand characteristics โ IT load profiles, AI/GPU compute loads, PUE, redundancy architectures, and power density trends Experience with grid interconnection processes for large load customers (data centers, industrial) in the US market US market experience is required โ familiarity with US utility interconnection processes, ISO/RTO requirements, and large load interconnection norms Demonstrated experience leading and managing an engineering team Strong client-facing skills with a track record of owning end-to-end project delivery Familiarity with relevant tools (e.g., PSSยฎE, ETAP, HOMER, PVsyst, CFD platforms, or similar) Excellent communication skills โ able to bridge facility, energy, and grid disciplines in client and leadership conversations
