Job Description Job Description SGM Magnetics is seeking a hands-on Electro-Mechanical Engineer to join our Recycling Division and work with advanced metal-sorting technologies such as X-ray Transmission (XRT), X-ray Fluorescence (XRF), Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS), and Eddy Current Separation systems. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain experience with cutting-edge recycling technologies while working directly with customers, commissioning industrial equipment, and collaborating with our global engineering team in Italy. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver who enjoys working in the field, troubleshooting complex systems, and contributing to innovative recycling solutions.

Primary Job Functions: Become an expert in SGM’s Recycling Technologies. Availability to travel as required to customers’ plants around the country to give technical service, commission new equipment, and develop existing and new projects. Work closely with the Engineering Department in Italy on mechanical and electrical design, algorithm software development, customer testing, commissioning, and after-sales technical support.

Perform tests and document results at SGM’s Testing Facility in Cleveland, OH. Generate service reports and be in direct contact with the Engineering Department in Italy for any technical clarifications or troubleshooting. Provide support (including remote support) and commission equipment in a Metal Recycling environment.

Maintain organized documentation including manuals, commissioning reports, inspection reports, and project photos. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Electro-Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Interest in hands-on mechanical/electrical systems and industrial equipment.

Strong understanding reading and analyzing electrical diagrams. Experience with PLC troubleshooting, industrial automation, or sensor-based systems is a plus. Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat.

Knowledge of AutoCAD and SolidWorks is a plus. Excellent communication skills to be able to present complex technical information and issues in a user-friendly manner to customers. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment.

Ability to prioritize tasks while adapting to changing project and customer needs. Must have outstanding organizational skills. Great attitude and strong work ethic.

Travel: Travel is typically 20–40% depending on project activity, including visits to customer recycling plants for equipment commissioning, troubleshooting, and testing. Candidate must be flexible and willing to travel domestically. There may be some travel required to our Headquarters in Italy for training.
